Prejudice and control
[EMAIL PROTECTED]: The qmail list does not accept messages from Microsoft Outlook Express. I get the above mesage whenever I send mail to the list nowadays. I've been a member for quite a while and am curious why my input is no longer accepted. Niles
Re: Wilson and the Sir.CAM virus
[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I think it's really an issue of user knowledge - most linux users are not going to just randomly open / execute a program just because they receive it in their email. If you use a mailer like mutt or pine, it's pretty unlikely [snip] Even us hybrids who use both m$ and *nix with have half a brain know enough not to open executables from untrusted senders. I watched the first mail from Wilson come in yesterday afternoon and merely deleted it as I braced myself for the inevitable responses from all the virus scanners out there. Stuff like this happens often enough here. I hope nobody out there was naive enough to have opened the file and became infected. Now we still haven't heard anything; does this list have an admin / moderator? Why isn't it closed to off list subscribers and why doesn't it reject all attachments? This is not a moderated list and I think D.B. is probably too busy solving *real* problems to pay much attention to these minor annoyances from one of the toys he's created. He probably is not even aware what's going on..
Re: Solaris vs. Linux vs. FreeBSD
[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I understand that Free BSD and Linux are the overwhelming choices of the Internet pornography industry. That is a good technical figure of merit, because it means these servers are stable (for HTTP) when getting lots and lots of hits. Actually, Linux and FreeBSD are the systems of choice in startup porn companies because of their low cost. Once a company begins to move major traffic they find that low cost systems have too many limitations to handle what the leaders of the company want to do. This is when they use their new found wealth to buy Solaris.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I use vpop to administer ezmlm mailing list, but the list will not add subscribers, yet it says the name has been added. When I go to display subscribers the list is blank. I need someone to work with me to fix this problem. Please advise if you are able to assist me. al First of all, with the extraordinarily long signature, I doubt if you will receive very much help from most of this list. I seem to remember you being chastised about this in an earlier post. Forgive me if I am mistaking you for another, but use another sig file when posting for tech support. You won't appear nearly so lame. Secondly, and more to your request, this is not the best list to post that question. [EMAIL PROTECTED] is much better. For best results, include more specific information about the problem. Excerpts from the applicable log files to show what the box is doing really helps the helpers help you. Niles
Re: URGENT: Qmail-remote gone nuts
[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: So I got rid of the support forward and now support seems to be reiceving mail fine -- but how I do clear my queue when qmail-qstat reports: messages in queue: 5046 messages in queue but not yet preprocessed: 0 Delete the queue and rebuild it. A good tool for that is queue-fix. Niles
Re: Log Entry question
Drew Hawn [EMAIL PROTECTED] asked: Thanks. I'll check it out. How can I decode the tai64 format? I can't tell when this problem is still occurring. There is a program called tai64nlocal that decodes the timestamps. Niles

Re: Random Bounce
[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Well, here's the bounce msg. Only the sender's name was changed. The receipient, jmorgan, has a mailbox which works ALMOST all the time ;-) To my novice eyes, the problem is on my isp's server. [stuff deleted] What do your mail log files indicate?
Re: Tcpserver - GONE A BIT FAR ...
Charles Cazabon [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: No. Those that do not have the "knowhow" on where to find the fucking manual (in the tarball with the source code! what an idea!) shouldn't be running computers at all, let alone an MTA on the internet. Welcome to the second millenium where clueless folks abound on the internet. And it is a good thing too. Without them we'd be back in the days when only .edu's and .gov's existed on the 'net. Sure, it was a nice little community and we were all able to keep our noses glued to the overhead, but who cared?
Re: qmail won't receive email
Kevin Smith wrote: The problem I have now is I cannot send any email with qmail as I get the following error : An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Test', Account: 'Kevin Smith', Server: 'dwshop2.dedic.web.xara.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '451 qq trouble creating files in queue (#4.3.0)', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 451, Error Number: 0x800CCC6A This is just a guess, but I think you will have to recreate your queue directory structure. I know there is a utility called queue-fix that will make the job easier.
Re: Tcpserver
[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Kuhl. In that case who do I talk to to get unsubscribed from this group? I already tried unsubscribing from the web page and it acted like it took it, but I'm still getting emails a day later. Look at the headers of the mail you recieve from the list and look at the return path. There you will find the address you have subscribed under. For example: Return-Path: [EMAIL PROTECTED] would indicate [EMAIL PROTECTED] was subscribed. To unsubscribe [EMAIL PROTECTED] from the list, send a mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Then reply to the confirmation request and you will be removed from the list.
