Now I can only say that you don't have a maildir in your homedirectory... How do you start qmail-send (what is in /var/qmail/rc)? -- Grtz, Arjen.

I am having the same problem... (I send an email to the list earlier with the contents of all files I thought might be relevant, but I haven't seen that mail come up. Can anyone confirm that it was sent to the list? Perhaps I made a mistake in sending...) Shawn
Re: Error deferral: Unable_to_chdir_to_maildir._(#4.2.1)/
check for a Maildir in your users directory. If the Maildir is there make sure that the user owns the directory. -- Thank you, Dale
Re: Error deferral: Unable_to_chdir_to_maildir._(#4.2.1)/
Eddy, qmail delivers mail as the user it is delivering to (assuming a standard install). So the recipient of the mail has to A.) have permissions to get to and write into the Maildir, and B.) The Maildir and its subdirectories need to exist. You should be able to use ls -l to determine if the ownership and permissions are correct on the homedirectory and Maildir in question. If the Maildir doesn't exist, create it. If you can't figure it out, we will need more information, like logfiles, an ls -lR of the user's home directory, etc. Jamin On Thu, 5 Jul 2001, eddy wrote: I have a problem with qmail, and make me cannot send or receive mail, and it show error messages like this : delivery 1: deferral: Unable_to_chdir_to_maildir._(#4.2.1)/ Can anyone help me to fix it out Thanks Regards, Eddy

Re: Unable_to_chdir_to_maildir._(#4.2.1)
My local user like root can't reseive mail I have this errors Root never receives mail on qmail systems. You have to define an alias for root that delivers to an unpriviledged account. The error means either that no maildir exists at the users home directory or that it's permissions prevent qmail-local to chdir into it. See "man maildirmake" for creation of maildirs. You might want to make a maildir in your new user template (/etc/skel on many systems). Regards, Frank

From: Dewald Strauss [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Fri, 10 Mar 2000 09:20:57 +0200 I sent a mail from the console (echo test | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]) and right after that these messages started to appear. Did I break something by doing this, or is it just coincidence ? Probably. But whom did you really send it to? You imply that you expect to receive it yourself, but that doesn't narrow it down very much. It could be to yourself, or one of your aliases, or a system account aliased to you. Give us the actual address, and the contents of all relevant .qmail* files. (My theory is that it's a bad alias. I shot myself in the foot this way last month, but got a different message because I was using mbox format, so I can't yet tell whether you've done the same.) -- Bob Rogers

Hi everybody, Since yesterday I started getting the following messages in my maillogs: delivery 460 deferral: Unable_to_chdir_to_maildir (#4.2.1) there are hundreds of these messages, but only for one user (myself) The rest of the mail gets delivered as usual. I sent a mail from the console (echo test | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]) and right after that these messages started to appear. Did I break something by doing this, or is it just coincidence ? The permissions on my Maildir is exactly the same as other Maildirs, and no other changes was made to the machine Anybody have any idea what could have caused this/know how I can fix this ? I am using RedHat 6.0 with qmail 1.03 + vpopmail + sqwebmail Regards Dewald

What are the permissions on and ownership of /var/qmail/popboxes/testeur/Maildir and /var/qmail/popboxes/testeur/Maildir/* ? Chris I had the structure wrong, I had the cur tmp and new directories directly under /var/qmail/popboxes/testeur ( I was missing the /var/qmail/popboxes/testeur/Maildir directory ) I modified the structure, it now works OK for deliveries, I will now tackle the retrieval by users. Thanks to Chris Johnson for his help. PS: Does anybody know why the texts I post to the list typed in single space end up double spaced ?? Christian (Chris) Tremblay Chateau Stores of Canada Ltd.
