[qmailtoaster] qtp-newmodel fails on FUSE

2009-10-27 Thread Wim Godden

Hi,

I've been using qmailtoaster for quite some time and everything's been
running smoothly in the past few months. I recently upgraded a slave box
without any problems (qtp-newmodel, made unionfs sandbox, etc.).
In the past this also worked on my main box. However, when I run it now,
I get this :

qtp-newmodel - updating toaster (mostly spamassassin) dependencies ...

Make sure you do a full yum upgrade first, and then a reboot to
activate the new kernel. Then run qtp-newmodel again.

If that still doesn't work, post the output of these commands:
qtp-whatami
uname -a
rpm -qa | grep kernel

Just a reminder for spamdyke users, that the blacklists file isn't used

yum upgrade and reboot didn't help.

I do know why though. The system does have the latest kernel in its
grub.conf, but when I reboot, there's only 1 item in the kernel list :
the (very) old kernel.

Please post the output of
# df -h
# cat /etc/fstab
# cat /boot/grub/menu.lst
and we'll see if we can't get your menu.lst (aka grub.conf) fixed up.

Where is the default location for the bayes db?

I've looked in /root/.spamassassin and /home/vpopmail/.spamassassin,
there's nothing there.

Do I need to do something to initialize the bayes db?

This machine will be used as a filter in front of an Exchange server,
so there's currently no local user accounts.

Brent Gardner

The bayes database is created automatically as it's used, in
/home/vpopmail/.spamassassin/.

Thanks, Eric.

Of course, I mostly found the answer to my question after I posted it.
I found a posting in the email archive that suggested that running
sa-learn --sync would cause the database files to be created. So I ran
'sudo -u vpopmail -H sa-learn --sync' and voila- there's my database files.

Now, another question: If I relocate the database using bayes_path in
/etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf will it mess up any QmailToaster Plus
scripts, such as qtp-newmodel or qtp-backup?

qtp-backup will not be able to archive the file if you move it's
location unless you edit the script to add it to the archival process.
You'll need to edit it around line 157 to adjust this. qtp-newmodel does
not backup these files.

I'd suggest posting something on the CentOS list or forum. This is
definitely something with grub. Maybe a google search may give some more

I don't recall seeing Ben's menu.lst file, so I wouldn't jump to this
conclusion.

It's also possible that a link to menu.lst isn't quite right. A 'normal'
Centos5 system should have:

[r...@doris etc]# ls -l /etc/grub.conf
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 May 30 2008 /etc/grub.conf -
../boot/grub/grub.conf

[r...@doris etc]# ls -l /boot/grub/menu.lst
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 May 30 2008 /boot/grub/menu.lst - ./grub.conf
[r...@doris etc]# ls -l /boot/grub/grub.conf
-rw--- 1 root root 1138 Aug 3 15:48 /boot/grub/grub.conf
[r...@doris etc]#

I'm not sure which name is used by what, but if someone one of these
links is a normal file instead of a link, you might have 2 different
configurations going on. I think it's worth checking.

Me too. I'm guessing that perhaps webmin is clobbering something, which
would be easy enough to do.

That's odd. My toaster has run the udpates with fuse, and autofs is
running. Perhaps something in your autofs configuration (auto.master) is
conflicting?

Fair enough, but his symptoms are identical. Stuck on the .92 kernel,
I think he said his GRUB file is correct, OS updated but booting to the
wrong kernel.
 It's also possible that a link to menu.lst isn't quite right. A

My GRUB file is exactly the same as above, and menu.1st file is OK
I am about to convert this

Me too. I'm guessing that perhaps webmin is clobbering something,

I am not sure why you think this. I have Webmin on 3 others servers and
they all behave as expected. They are up to date on all software, ie.
CentOS, QMT, Webmin. It's something on that one machine that went
haywire. It happened some time ago and I have simply been updating the
toaster manually. Since this system is being replaced I haven't spent
much time on repairing it.

I have 2 other systems with fresh installs and all the updates OS,
Toaster, Webmin worked flawlessly including the qtp-newmodel for
updating the toaster.

simscan will not show in ps. It's called as part of qmail-smtp.
You need to look at your smtp logs to see if it's showing there, and
show us some email headers where you think it's not running. Showing us
the smtp logs will also help. And lastly, make sure it's defined
correctly in your tcp.smtp file. Show us that file if you have any
questions as well.

Fair enough, but his symptoms are identical. Stuck on the .92 kernel,
I think he said his GRUB file is correct, OS updated but booting to the

wrong kernel.

It's certainly even likely that you both have the same problem. I just
haven't seen verification of Ben's menu.lst situation.

It's also possible that a link to menu.lst isn't quite right. A
'normal' Centos5 system should have:

[r...@doris etc]# ls -l /etc/grub.conf
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 May 30 2008 /etc/grub.conf -
../boot/grub/grub.conf
[r...@doris etc]# ls -l /boot/grub/menu.lst
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 May 30 2008 /boot/grub/menu.lst - ./grub.conf
[r...@doris etc]# ls -l /boot/grub/grub.conf
-rw--- 1 root root 1138 Aug 3 15:48 /boot/grub/grub.conf
[r...@doris etc]#

I'm not sure which name is used by what, but if someone one of these
links is a normal file instead of a link, you might have 2 different
configurations going on. I think it's worth checking.

My GRUB file is exactly the same as above, and menu.1st file is OK

If those are ok then the only thing I can think of that would cause the
machine not to boot to the kernel specified in /boot/grub/menu.lst is if
there's another boot/grub partition on the drive that the MBR is
pointing to. I would try modifying the menu.lst file a bit (like
changing the default time to 120 or something) and see if that's what's
being picked up at boot time. My guess is that it isn't.

The grub commands I posted earlier should fix up a broken MBR, but
that's risky to do on a production server.

I am about to convert this
machine to a backup and will do a clean install. I would like to know
how to resolve it though.

Me too. I'm guessing that perhaps webmin is clobbering something,
which would be easy enough to do.

I am not sure why you think this.

I'm just trying to imagine what the problem could be. Call it a swag, as
I said guessing that perhaps. I haven't used Webmin, so don't know
what to expect from it.

Sounds like replacement is a wise choice. I've really no idea how it
came to be in the state it's in. Probably a short between the KB and
chair at some point. ;)

Ben King wrote:

I don't know about that. I have noticed that all of the fuse errors I
saw on my system went away when I turned off autofs for the duration
of the upgrade.

That's odd. My toaster has run the udpates with fuse, and autofs is
running. Perhaps something in your autofs configuration (auto.master)
is conflicting?

I have 2 other systems with fresh installs and all the updates OS,
Toaster, Webmin worked flawlessly including the qtp-newmodel for
updating the toaster.

I'm glad to hear you're having some success!

One is production other is test/toy. I installed all of my goodies and
for the fun of it turned it into a desktop. I installed KDE. It's
working like a charm. I would never use this as a production setup,
but for testing and even local mail it's pretty cool.

Thanks for all the hard work you guys do. The ISO is a dream come

and completely updated with several utilities (Webmin, Fail2ban, OSSEC,
ProFTPd) I use in about an hour and a half.

In the past this also worked on my main box. However, when I run it

The FUSE unionfs hasn't been tested on that arch yet.
That explains why fuse doesn't necessarily work.

Ben and CJ, are your problem toasters 64-bit as well??

Is anyone with a x86_64 toaster actually running a newer kernel? Please

Re: [qmailtoaster] qmailtoaster-plus-0.3.1-1.4.14 released

2009-10-27 Thread Eric Shubert

Eric Shubert wrote:
I'm happy to announce the next release of qmailtoaster-plus! This is a
fairly major release.

First and foremost, the qmailtoaster-plus.repo package has been
expanded. It now includes repositories for each distro/version to
provide the FUSE packages required by the updated qtp-newmodel. While it
is usually a good idea to run

# yum update
before running qtp-newmodel, you *must* minimally run
# yum update qmailtoaster-plus.repo
before running the new qtp-newmodel with a unionfs sandbox.
If you don't do this update, you'll see:
Error getting repository data for qtp-CentOS, repository not found
qtp-mount-sandbox - installation of dependent packages failed
qtp-mount-sandbox - is your qmailtoaster-plus.repo package up to date?

Secondly, the unionfs sandbox used by qtp-newmodel has been totally
revamped. It now runs with FUSE (Filesystem in USErspace), so it doesn't
need to be rebuilt whenever the kernel is updated. This is compatible
now with newer kernels (Fedora 10,11), and has been implemented in older
kernels (2.6.9+) with the help of the dkms and dkms-fuse packages. All
of the details are handled automatically by the qtp-mount-sandbox
script, which is invoked by qtp-newmodel (and can be run from the CLI
FWIW). If you're running CentOS, be sure to be patient when dkms-fuse is
installing. It takes a bit of time because it builds a kernel module
during the post install process.

The unionfs sandbox has not been tested on Suse or Mandriva. I expect
there will be a few things that need to be done to get it working, but
it shouldn't be difficult, as the pieces are all in place. If one of you
who is running Suse or Mandriva would like to test this functionality,
please contact me.

The other fairly big change is that the qtp-extraclam script has been
replaced with a new qtp-install-sanesecurity script. This script
downloads and installs the current version of the script which maintains
the extra clamav databases. When a new version becomes available, you
can simply rerun qtp-install-sanesecurity to get the latest version.

There are other minor enhancements as well. qtp-newmodel now lets you
select packages for re-install, and it also displays the last 10 lines
of the log file if/when there's a build error. See the release notes for
any other little things I may have missed in this announcement.

As always, please post to the list with any questions or comments.

NJoy!

I meant to mention that the FUSE unionfs hasn't been tested on x86_64.
I'm really sorry to have omitted that. I hope we can get this working on
x86_64 hosts in short order.

Make sure you do a full yum upgrade first, and then a reboot to
activate the new kernel. Then run qtp-newmodel again.

If that still doesn't work, post the output of these commands:
qtp-whatami
uname -a
rpm -qa | grep kernel

yum upgrade and reboot didn't help.

I do know why though. The system does have the latest kernel in its
grub.conf, but when I reboot, there's only 1 item in the kernel list
: the (very) old kernel.

and doing :
grub-install hd0
results in :
/dev/sda1 does not have any corresponding BIOS drive.

grub-install --recheck hd0
results in :
grub-install does not support reprobing of device.map when
using a device-mapper based boot device.

Any ideas ? This is the output you asked for :
qtp-whatami v0.3.5

OSVER=5.4
QTARCH=x86_64
QTKERN=2.6.18-92.el5

Wait a sec. I just noticed that this is x86_64. Doh!
The FUSE unionfs hasn't been tested on that arch yet.
That explains why fuse doesn't necessarily work.

Ben and CJ, are your problem toasters 64-bit as well??

Is anyone with a x86_64 toaster actually running a newer kernel?
Please chime in.
