I think you'll have to simply not use the RBLs (and whatever other spamdyke filters you deem risky) until you can get your whitelist put together, and live with the spam. I hope that your server can handle all of the scanning spamassassin will be doing with the absence of spamdyke's filtering. It will definitely be under a larger load without the spamdyke filtering. Note, if you decide to turn off spamdyke entirely, you'll need to maintain any RBLs you choose (not) to use by editing the /var/qmail/control/blacklists file. -- -Eric 'shubes' - Qmailtoaster is sponsored by Vickers Consulting Group (www.vickersconsulting.com) Vickers Consulting Group offers Qmailtoaster support and installations. Because that's why you're getting these messages. Aleksander posted a problem with bind and COS5.4 a while back. Adding OPTIONS=-4 to the end of your /etc/sysconfig/named file, and doing # service named restart fixes the problem. There are also some lame-server messages from bind that can be annoying, as they get picked up by logwatch. To get rid of them, modify your named.caching-nameserver.conf file as such in the logging section: logging { channel default_debug { file data/named.run; severity dynamic; }; category lame-servers { null; }; }; Merry Christmas! :) -- -Eric 'shubes' Francisco Paco Peralta wrote: Yes, I have CentOS 5.4...Why? Is there any good suggestions please? -Nic What is your present configuration? Are you still running spamdyke? If so, what's in your spamdyke.conf file? Have you implemented a whitelist with all of your vendors? What do you consider to be false positives? You might need to adjust the spamassassin thresholds to suite your environment. Look at the scores of the false positives. If they're slightly above the required_score in your local.cf file, you can adjust that setting appropriately. Also, look to see which rules are contributing to your false positives. Some rules may be inappropriate in your environment, causing some emails to score too high. Adjusting a server to handle spam well is something that takes some doing, but it isn't all that difficult. Once you have things set up for your environment, things will run smoothly with most spam being caught, and very few false positives. -- -Eric 'shubes' - Qmailtoaster is sponsored by Vickers Consulting Group (www.vickersconsulting.com) Vickers Consulting Group offers Qmailtoaster support and installations. [qmailtoaster] question concerning qmail queue
hi all recently we had a spam attack due to a compromised user. we are planning on a script to prevent this by having an automatic tool to monitor the qmail queue. if the number of emails in the queue exceeds say 100 then open every email in the queue, track the ips and if any one is repeated more than 50 times block the ip address in iptables my questions Question no 1 will opening and reading the qmail queue cause any kind of corruption of the queue ? Question no 2 is there a better way to control such spammers by having a limit on the number of emails per day or per hour thru one specific smtp authenticated user id and password ? any ideas on this would be very helpful thanks rajesh - Qmailtoaster is sponsored by Vickers Consulting Group (www.vickersconsulting.com) Vickers Consulting Group offers Qmailtoaster support and installations. Re: [qmailtoaster] question concerning qmail queue
Hi Rajesh, have a look at the iptables- module recent. It logs connections on the desired ports, counting new connections in a table and, when a threshold is reached, blocks the concerned ip. Consider running a script that looks at the blocked ips to resolve the problem on the infected PC. Andreas Am Thursday 10 December 2009 19:17:12 schrieb Rajesh M: hi all recently we had a spam attack due to a compromised user. we are planning on a script to prevent this by having an automatic tool to monitor the qmail queue. if the number of emails in the queue exceeds say 100 then open every email in the queue, track the ips and if any one is repeated more than 50 times block the ip address in iptables my questions Question no 1 will opening and reading the qmail queue cause any kind of corruption of the queue ? Question no 2 is there a better way to control such spammers by having a limit on the number of emails per day or per hour thru one specific smtp authenticated user id and password ? any ideas on this would be very helpful thanks rajesh --- -- Qmailtoaster is sponsored by Vickers Consulting Group (www.vickersconsulting.com) Vickers Consulting Group offers Qmailtoaster support and installations.
