Is is feasible to take the system offline for a couple hours?
Do you have a secondary MX that can receive email while you're down?
How much data do you have to transfer? (How big is a qtp-backup file?)

These are some things to consider.

I am actually in the same situation with one of my servers. So the
procedure is:

1. install cos5 and qmailtoaster following the wiki instructions:
http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/CentOS_5_QmailToaster_Install

2. cos4: qtp-backup (instructions:
http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/Backup_and_Restore)

3: cos5: qtp-restore

As I don't know what qtp-backup actually does, I am wondering what is
the benefit of using it instead of moving config files from control
and dumping/restoring the vpopmail db manually?

qtp-backup and qtp-restore grab all of the configuration data and
email, creating a single tarball of the whole thing (multiple tarballs
are contained inside). You could of course do it all manually, but
you'll possibly miss something. Like the SA bayes database, your
tcp.smtp file, /var/qmail/users/ or squirrelmail settings and address
books. Using the scripts gives some piece of mind that you have
everything. :)

I am doing this now and I do not have any issues so far.
The only thing I have not checked is the spamdyke files to be sure
all is good there.
It is not live yet but as soon as I go through everything once over I
will do the restore again.

Thanks
Dave

[qmailtoaster] qtp-backup - ezmlm lists??

It doesn't appear to me that qtp-backup/qtp-restore handles ezmlm lists.
Does anyone know where ezmlm stuff resides??

Hi Eric,

ezmlm stuff will appear as an individual user folder within the domain. The
folder has the name of the mailing list and all relevant content will be stored
in special subfolders.

So, backing up all domains will also backup ezmlm!

I don't know for sure. The spamdyke documentation doesn't appear to say.
I would expect it be insensitive.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: Spamdyke/SpamAssassin blacklisting

2012-03-13 Thread Casey Price
I've got one user that keeps getting tons of spam (it also happens to be
my dad...go figure, the one customer I'm not charging is the biggest
PITA). All of the spam is coming from a wide range of sources, but a
majority of the messages are formatted the exact same way, and they are
all being sent to his address in caps. I've got simscan setup with a
medium-grade score for his entire domain, but I've been noticing
messages are being accepted that are way above the max score of 8 I've set.

Since it is all coming from random domains I don't want to just
blacklist them all, as I don't think that will help. SpamAssassin is
flagging some of them as spam, but quite a few are receiving low scores.
Most of the messages even have spf dkim setup in them, so I'm at a
loss of how to stop them. There is only 1 email address on his domain
and I could swear that as soon as he clicked an unsubscribe link in
one of the messages he started getting waves and waves of spam.

Sounds like you may have neglected to run

That can happen. Need to be very careful about unsubscribing.

It's sorta hard to come up with suggestions w/out seeing what your
configuration settings are. It'd be nice to see spamdyke.conf for
starters. Also SA's local.cf would be helpful.

Do you have any sort of training with sa-learn set up?

Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: Spamdyke/SpamAssassin blacklisting

2012-03-13 Thread ca...@smileglobal.com

Actually I did run qmailctl cab

I will send over a copy of my spamdkye sa settings when I get home.

I have been manually training SA each night with the junk mail. It has
helped a little, but not nearly enough.

I've got one user that keeps getting tons of spam (it also happens to be
my dad...go figure, the one customer I'm not charging is the biggest

majority of the messages are formatted the exact same way, and they are
all being sent to his address in caps. I've got simscan setup with a
medium-grade score for his entire domain, but I've been noticing
messages are being accepted that are way above the max score of 8 I've

set.

Sounds like you may have neglected to run
#service qmail cdb
after changing the simcontrol file. (?)

That can happen. Need to be very careful about unsubscribing.

It's sorta hard to come up with suggestions w/out seeing what your
configuration settings are. It'd be nice to see spamdyke.conf for
starters. Also SA's local.cf would be helpful.

Do you have any sort of training with sa-learn set up?
