RE: [qmailtoaster] How to upgrade

2008-03-13 Thread Jack D. Martin Jr.

Helmut,

That response was not directed at you. I too have limited time. Working a
full time job and running a small ISP pretty much kills me, QMT has been my
savior - especially the ISO. FWIW - I just launched newmodel and am
letting it upgrade clamav and squirrelmail right now. I will tell you how
it went. Hopefully spamassassin gets an upgrade soon.

Just to be clear - I am not naysaying the work or anything else that folks
here do. I am most appreciative, especially the QMT-ISO project. I might
not be running Qmail if not for it. I just personally don't have a lot of
spare time to troubleshoot and do workarounds when I run into problems, and
therefore waiting is best for me. I know it will be fixed eventally.

Any upgrade with any platform can be a nightmare. Ever hear of Microsoft?
I have had less troubles with QMT than anything I have ever used. The work
that these guys do - FOR FREE, I might add, is some of the best I have ever
seen!!

This was my number one reason for having to move away from qmt for now. I am
watching and hoping to start using it again once some of these problems are
resolved.

Helmut - did you upgrade? I am in the same boat as you, I installed qmt-iso
1.2, and am scared to death to upgrade. The last time I tried that - I was
down for a while as I had to rebuild everything (it was my fault).

So is qtp-newmodel safe to run now if I installed with qmt-iso 1.2? Or do I
need to do an upgrade via another route (i.e. get the newest qtp and install
that first? Thx!

Fixed. You can just edit /opt/qmailtoaster-plus/bin/qtp-sa-update and
change these lines:
$DAILYCRON=/etc/cron.daily/qtp-sa-update
$ORIG=`pwd`

To this:

DAILYCRN=/etc/cron.daily/qtp-sa-update
ORIG=`pwd`

(just remove the $ from the front of those variables) if you don't want to
download the package again. Sorry about that!

The new server is 172.25.13.2 (natted behind 65.77.22.250). I setup

And 65.77.22.250 is the IP of your new server?

An other test you can make is to enable authentication in you smtproutes.
Check the wiki again, and add user&pass to your forward route in your new
server.

Natalio.

This is what I put in:

@400046800bef11b8200c tcpserver: ok 32374

@400046800bf02dffbfcc tcpserver: end 32374 status 0

I changed the it to 65.77.22.250:allow,RELAYCLIENT="" Still would not work.

Exactly. If you don't want to forward all mail, yo should specify which
domain(s) you want to forward:

somedomain.com:10.1.1.1

If the new box is receiving mails from other hosts, you should create there
domain in /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts, or they will be banned.

So no need for Bind to even be on the new machine - then it will send all
emails to whatever domain using the main qmail server. Let me see if I have
this right. In new box I edit /var/qmail/control/smtproutes and add just
this line:

:10.1.1.1

Where 10.1.1.1 is the mailserver IP. Is there nothing that would go before

Yes, that will be enough

You can filter via iptables, and do not publish it as an MX for your domain,
so it won´t receive mails from the outside.

So all I would do is install the toaster on the new box - and edit
/var/qmail/control/smtproutes in that box, then edit tcp.smtp in the
original server to allow the new box to relay? What about DNS and all of
that stuff on the new box - I don't want it to receive mail, just send.

You can use /var/qmail/control/smtproutes.
It is as easy as:
:10.1.1.1
where 10.1.1.1 is the IP of your main server.

Check http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/Smtproutes

[qmailtoaster] Use Qmail???

2007-06-11 Thread Jack D. Martin Jr.

I have the toaster running on my server, and need to setup a box that will
handle billing. That box needs to be able to send e-mail, but I want it to
send it all though the main server. Can I setup the toaster to do this -
and can I do it easily? I have the box built with CentOS 5.0 already
(figured I had might as well join the Cent community since Mandriva got kind
of weird on this last version). Now I just need to know how to do what I
need - or at least be sent in the right direction.

RE: [qmailtoaster] New Install Problems

2007-05-29 Thread Jack D. Martin Jr.
I finally got that RPM to install - the problem is that the spec for the
toaster RPMS is looking at default build as there is no mdv2007. I had to
tweak the spec files from then on, and got them all to install - until I got
to spamassassin. I could not get it to go no matter what. I finally gave up
and formatted the server. I downloaded the qmt-iso - and let it go, but
alas there is still no joy in mudville. Something did not go right. The
admin is not working properly. I also see an LDAP error in the httpd logs.
I am going to format it again - start over, and see what happens, I think I
may have fubar'ed something. I really do not like CentOS - I love Mandriva,
but I do not want to fight that fight with the toaster. I suppose it is
because Mandrake is what I have grown comfortable with. That and the fact
that I am far from a guru - and Mandriva has a lot of things to make life
easy, and a very active community. Seems there are more RPM's avail too -
unlike CentOS. Anyway - thanks for the well wishes, I will sleep eventually
- I was really hoping at 3am that it was golden, but oh well. Had to go on
a field trip with kindergarten today, and 2nd grade tomorrow. My customers
are going to lynch me!!!

You actually answered your own question in your own email.
control-panel-toaster is looking for the "httpd" rpm but you have installed
the "apache-base" rpm. The dependency for httpd is not being satisfied by
apache-base, no matter what the version is.

RE: [qmailtoaster] Spam Detection for all user?

2006-11-24 Thread Jack D. Martin Jr.

I also like the spam detection check box. I installed the toaster this week
with a default install. How can I change the install? I am assuming I need
to do the following:

rpmbuild --rebuild --with mdk103 --define 'spambox 1'
qmailadmin-toaster-1.2.9-1.3.3.src.rpm
rpm -e nodeps qmailadmin-toaster-1.2.9
Rpm -Uvh qmailadmin-toaster-1.2.9

Will this work properly without destroying my toaster - users don't like not
having email :-)

Yes, you should be able to just put the .qmail file in each box to make it
work.
There's no other way to make this the default for every user that I know of.

[qmailtoaster] Violation of security policies?

2005-12-23 Thread Jack D. Martin Jr.
Title: Violation of security policies?

I forwarded several messages in a row (11 to be exact) and they started bouncing.  The last 4 came back with undeliverable messages.  There were only two addresses in the email, so I know I didn't violate the maximum amount there.  What could cause this?  I have included the return message from one of the emails below, they are all identical.

I'll be setting up a test box to do some of the upgrades on at the end of
the week, and performing the upgrades over the weekend. I plan on writing a
how-to for upgrading to the newest packages, and will probably write a
script to perform the bulk of this for you if you want to hold off a few
more days. My test box is being used for some mailing-list type testing
right now (patch for chkuser to come from Nick in the near future for this).

[qmailtoaster] Upgrade How To?

2005-12-07 Thread Jack D. Martin Jr.
Title: Upgrade How To?

How do I upgrade the toaster packages?  I installed it on Mandriva LE2005 and it has been working fine, but I know that virtually all of the packages have new builds, and I am sure some are for security reasons.  I have been afraid to tempt an upgrade, because this server has customers on it, and I had enough trouble getting it to all work in the beginning.

problems are fixed. Jake worked through finding that suexec was causing my
problems. I have messed up so many things trying to fix this - I am going
to wipe the server this weekend and start fresh. Now that I know it can
work - I will make it work. The install should be very clean this time. I
am going to use scripts and use webmin and virtualmin. This is definitely a
newbie install. If all goes well and without hitches, I am going to
document it all - so the next newbie will have a starting place. You have
all been very helpful - even the ones who complained about the read receipts
;-) Ben King was a big help - and I say thank you, I am going to be using
parts of your script to do the install. A big hats off and heartfelt thanks
to Jake and Erik, who have been more than helpful and spend countless hours
on this project. Hopefully I can help them in the future.

If you check the archives, there was a script posted to this list not long
ago that may give you the pointers you need on a Mandrake 10.2 install.
After I posted that script I decided to move away from mandrake because it
was too volatile a distribution for a server at this time. That company has
too many balls up in the air, not to mention how soon they had decided to
expire 10.2. I have to say though, mandrake seems pretty good with hardware
detection.

Did you configure apache a special way? Might be worth comparing notes to
see what modules I have loaded versus what Mandrake is loading in the
command line...
Is anyone else running this version of Mandrake out there? At this point
I'm ready to download a copy and install it to see if I can duplicate Jack's
problems.

The password can be changed from the command line, by going into the dir and
doing 'htpasswd -b admin.htpasswd admin newpassword'. As far as the
vpopmail password, you want to make sure it's using the right one for the
database. This can be changed at the command line by doing:
echo "GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON vpopmail.* TO [EMAIL PROTECTED] IDENTIFIED BY
'SsEeCcRrEeTt'" | mysql -u root -p and using your Mysql root password.
I wasn't able to change the admin password when I first installed mine,
either. I changed it via the command line, and honestly never readdressed
the issue.

Nick,

Here is the line from php.ini:

; You should do your best to write your scripts so that they do not require
; register_globals to be on; Using form variables as globals can easily
lead
; to possible security problems, if the code is not very well thought of.
; ### MDK: This is set to On in Mandrake because a lot of existing scripts
; ### MDK: needs it to be on, and we don't want to break configuration.
; ### MDK: Turning it on is a Bad Thing (tm), but for the sake of
; ### MDK: compatibility and less technical support, we'll close our eyes
;-)
register_globals = On

It was set to on already.

Hi Jack,

Set register_globals = On in php.ini to set your ~/admin-toaster/ password.
Then be sure to set register_globals = Off. (Restart httpd each time so
php.ini gets a fresh read)

Nick

Jake,

I just caught the first part of your reply - Yes Mandrake 10.2 and LE2005
are one and the same. Depending on who you talk to - you get to hear it
called one or the other. The official name is Mandriva LE2005.

I have verified that my php.ini settings are correct - I thought maybe that
was the reason for most of my problems.

The password in /usr/share/toaster/include/admin.htpasswd is encrypted The
password in /usr/share/toaster/include/admin.pass says toaster (as I would
expect - it is the default) The vpopmail user is just a user, is it not?
Where do I change the password for that? I used the script for the install
- shouldn't it all be correct?

Going to your problems, do you have SELinux enabled? It should be desabled
or QT wiil not work properly.

RE: [qmailtoaster] Multiple problems

2005-10-13 Thread Jack D. Martin Jr.

I actually turned it off on the first one. I have it set as a default - I
always forget to turn it on when I need it. So you can imagine how often I
remember to turn it off. I hate the confirmations too - hence the reason I
clicked the little box that says don't ask me again. ;-)

Probably those annoying receipt confirmations everyone gets with every one
of your posts.

In your firewall services you have to enable the services you are going tu
publish.
For sure, you will need to open port 25 (smtp) and 53 (dns), maybe 110 & 80
if pop3 and webmail are going to be used from outside.

Enable localhost to localhost traffic, so spamassassin can be used, and
webmail can use IMAP (port 143).

If you need further assistance in your iptables rules, I can send some
example.

Natalio

RE: [qmailtoaster] Installation Process

2005-10-08 Thread Jack D. Martin Jr.
Gabriel,

What I am asking would apply to any distro. I am not planning on going to
CentOS - not this week, and not ever. I am not saying I don't like CentOS,
but that I have found one that I like, and want to stick with it. Many
people use other distros. What I am asking in a simple fashion is:

1. How do I adapt the svcs script and firewall script to work for me? If
not - what svcs and firewall settings need to be in effect. This
information is sorely lacking int the toaster directions.
2. How do I adapt the install script to work for me? What changes should
be made, or should I use the rpm rebuild command? I would think that
information should be available somewhere.

This system is setup to make the installation easier. It just needs some
tweaking to make it complete, for everyone. I applaud the folks that have
worked this hard to get where it is today, now I implore them to make it
even better. That is what has drawn me to open source software. I don't
like the M$ tactics - but their stuff is simple for the novice. The toaster
can be just as simple - with more complete directions and directives. I
would love to help build those - if I can just get a simple answer to the
few questions I have asked. For some silly reason - I want this project to
do well, I am basing a server, my one and only mail server on that. Maybe I
am the silly one - I don't know. Please don't ask my wife to answer that
one!!! We are a very small wireless ISP in a rural area in Oklahoma, and I
mean rural. We are going to use the toaster to provide email services for
that ISP. As I have said in the past - I am a linux newb, but the people I
have conversed with thus far, have sold me on open source. Sorry to ramble
- it is late, and has been a long week. I am going to try to get this thing
completed tomorrow evening, I am just looking for the answers to make sure
that a stupid mistake doesn't have me re-formatting drives - again. Thanks.

Hi Jack

Mandrake 10.2 is a stranger to me. However, maybe you can try with CentOS
4.1 Many of us in the mailing list would be glad to help you in further.

Meanwhile, you can do it manually by compiling and install all packages.
I'm afraid there might have lost some packages, then you can install the
certain packages. You may follow the installation guide in
www.qmailtoaster.com for steps by steps packages installed.

[qmailtoaster] Installation Process

2005-10-08 Thread Jack D. Martin Jr.

I sent this out the other day - and got no responses with the exception of
telling me to turn off the read receipts (which I did for this one.) Can
somebody please answer these quick questions for me so I can get this mail
server up. I really do appreciate all of the help I have gotten here in the
past. Now I want to make it work.

I finally have Mandrake 10.2 installed on this old Proliant server. Just so
I don't need to do it again - I want to verify the correct process for
installing the toaster, please tell me any little step I am missing - I
don't want to make a mess. I don't see a deps script for 10.2, so I verify
that the following are all installed:

Crontabs
Expect
Freetype
freetype-devel
Gd
gd-devel
Gdbm
gdbm-devel
Httpd
httpd-devel
Libjpeg
libjpeg-devel
Libpng
libpng-devel
mod_ssl
Mrtg
Mysql
mysql-devel
mysql-server
openssl
openssl-devel
perl
pam-devel
php
php-mysql
php-imap
zlib-devel
Wget
perl-suidperl
perl-Time-HiRes
perl-Digest-SHA1
perl-DB_File
php-ldap
rpm-build
Gcc
gcc-c++
automake
autoconf

Then I use the download script to get all of the needed files for the
toaster install. I am assuming there is no svcs script, or firewall script
for Mandrake 10.2, what do I need to verify? What do I edit in the install
script to make it work properly, or do I just need to manually rebuild all
of the RPM's with the rpmbuild --rebuild --with distro package.src.rpm? I
know this all seems very basic - but I have had to rebuld the software on
this server 3 times in the last month, and I don't want to do it again. I
am very much a Linux newb, Mandrake 10.1 was my first ever distro. I have
learned a ton, and this mailing list has been very helpful. You guys are as
active as any forum I have ever seen. I want to learn and become part of
the folks that help as much as they are helped - but I have a ways to go...

Hi Jack,

Try the new isoqlog package. If it does not build properly on Mandrake, let
me know.

The only question I had about isoqlog is getting it installed. The toaster
just doesn't want to install on Mandrake 10.1. Has anybody made it work on
this distro? I am almost to the point of giving up and going back to M$. I
am a linux newb, and the mail server has about given me more grey hair than

Hi,

There was a question about starting isoqlog. Isoqlog does not start, per se,
it displays information that is updated periodically with a cron job.

After you have created your first domain and sent a test email in and out of
your new server, do this:

sh /usr/share/toaster/isoqlog/bin/cron.sh

This should create the isoqlog pages without having to wait for the next
cron job.

Regards,

Nick

Ok everybody - maybe I am not making myself clear. I will restate
my case, and maybe somebody will understand what I am looking for. I have
Mandrake 10.1. I can use Mandrake (the graphical interfaces make it almost
intuitive.) I read the Cent-OS install, and most of it does not make sense.
Cent-OS uses yum, Mandrake does not. I am wondering if somebody has step by
step - DETAILED - directions to do this install, including, the pathces,
Clam-AV, and SpamAsassin with Mandrake 10.1. I am sorry to sound like an
idiot, but let's face it - I basically am. Thanks in advance. If I am
asking for too much, and I probably am, then just tell me to pi$$ off.
