Re: [qmailtoaster] How to make it to GMAIL's INBOX (not SPAM) folder?

2015-01-22 Thread Marco Volkert

Hi,
Not sure how Google identifies SPAM but I did a quickcheck for that domains:

sysbible.org - http://mxtoolbox.com/domain/sysbible.org/?source=findmonitors
You might to fix that: "Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner"for
server iwo.mailriot.com

ajorenrac.com -
http://mxtoolbox.com/domain/ajorenrac.com/?source=findmonitors
You might to fix that: "Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner" for
server iwo.mailriot.com

Still not sure if this helps ...

Hello List,

This might be slightly off-topic, but I'd like to check with you on
possible action items to ensure your email domain arrives safely to
the INBOX of massive free email providers (e.g.: gmail) not the SPAM
folder...

Right now I am facing issues with two of my domains (i.e. sysbible.org
and ajorenrac.com). Ironically they seem not to have issues with YAHOO
(which used to be a tough one) but some time ago started hitting
Gmail's SPAM folder.

I have done the recommended DNS setup (i.e.: reverse DNS, SPF,...) and
blacklist checks and things seem OK... Beyond that, is there anything
that you recommend? Note that this email has been running for a few
years and did not have these issues before. Also I am not sending any
sort of SPAM (i.e. I am only using the email address used to send this
message and a mailing list with 10 friends).

I've been searching for solution but have not found anything really
substantial.

Thank you

No, I can't say what is best. I think the best one is the solution
fitting your needs ;-)
I'm fine with djbdns as it works for me (I just need the dnscache on
this mail server). I never used pdns.
Maybe, pdns is a good solution for systems with a high amount of dns
querries. But our mail sever is too small to have there a bottleneck, so
we go with djbdns ...

But can you tell me which is the best DNS djbdns or pdns.

as Marco points out, since the process is named "*/dnscache/*" it
is _highly likely_ that you have installed the DNS Caching Server
from *DJBDNS*.

If all you want/need is to run a caching nameserver, it is
perfectly fine to just keep *DJB *installed -- it is every bit as

If you insist on removing it in favor of powerdns, there isn't
likely to have been a YUM RPM that you used to install it (at

but it is small -- VERY small -- so just turning it off in your
startup scripts should suffice.

*cd /etc/init.d
grep -l dnscache *

either remove the script or try something like *chkconfig

Unfortunately, since DJBDNS is usually built and installed
locally, the exact methods to turn it off can only be guessed at

Run 'netstat -anp' and look for port 53. The last column will tell
you the binary listening on that port.

Please note this command option needs be run by root.

The nmap report shows that SOMETHING is already listening on port 53
(note: the error says that the socket for port 53 at address 127.0.0.1
is already in use ... what they mean by "address" would be more
clearly written as 127.0.0.1:53 so as not to
confuse you into thinking that ALL of 127.0.0.1 was "in use").

Typically, COS comes with a BIND installation -- so you will need to,
at a minimum, turn that off:

*chkconfig named off ; service named stop*
Then try starting your pdns recursor

If that solves the problem, then you can get rid of bind altogether
(although, there are a number of DNS utilities that I personally like
to have, so I personally keep BIND on the server, even if I am running
a pdns recursor instead of BIND). Still, if you must, you can remove
BIND with:

*yum erase named*

*
*I hope this helps :)

Not true, CJ. SpamAssassin scans only incoming, but Clamav scans
everything, including submissions.

Marco, this appears to be a signature that's included in the sane
security additional signatures. You might have some old signature files
hanging around which need to be cleaned up. Please post the following:
# ls -lR /usr/share/clamav

Turns out you're not alone. A few others on the sanesecurity list have
reported this FP (False Positive) as well. There's no word on when the
MBL maintainers will fix this.

If you're not running the sanesecurity update cron job, you can simply
remove the MBL files from /usr/share/clamav/, then do "qmail-clam
restart".

If you are running sanesecurity (which I'm guessing you are), here's
what Steve had to say on the sanesecurity list:

I've added an ignore sig, which will go to the mirrors shortly.

Or something like this will do for speed:

printf > ignoresigs.ign2 MBL_303159
copy the ignoresigs.ign2 file to clamav directory and restart clamd

As the MBL ones aren't distributed by me, I can't really do much more
that add an updated .ign2 file

Cheers,

Steve
Sanesecurity

In our case, the clamav directory is /usr/share/clamav/.

senders get a similar error message.

For now, I disabled clamav in /var/qmail/control/simcontrol so my
users are able to send emails.

Is this issue already known? What can I do that the mail server is
working as usual (with clamav)?

That appears to be coming from your network. ClamAV only scans incoming
e mail. Your issue appears to be with outgoing e mails being infected.

Not true, CJ. SpamAssassin scans only incoming, but Clamav scans
everything, including submissions.

Marco, this appears to be a signature that's included in the sane
security additional signatures. You might have some old signature

All I know is, use commandline to add domains, otherwise you can get
various problems

mailserver:/home/vpopmail/bin/vadddomain
vadddomain: usage: vadddomain [options] virtual_domain [postmaster password]
options: -v prints the version
-q quota_in_bytes (sets the quota for postmaster account)
-b (bounces all mail that doesn't match a user, default)
-e email_address (forwards all non matching user to this
address [*])

-u user (sets the uid/gid based on a user in /etc/passwd)
-d dir (sets the dir to use for this domain)
-i uid (sets the uid to use for this domain)
-g gid (sets the gid to use for this domain)
-O optimize adding, for bulk adds set this for all
   except the last one
-r[len] (generate a len (default 8) char random postmaster
password)

[*] omit @-sign to deliver directly into user's Maildir: '-e postmaster'

The only way I know for creating (web based) an email-account, is to use

Re: [qmailtoaster] Clamd and spamassassin-toaster can we stop these

2008-08-10 Thread Marco Volkert

To disable clamd and spamd permanently see the archive and look for
"disable antispam and av".

Here a shot summary:
copy paste this script dont forget to chmod +x

#!/bin/bash

echo "Stopping spamd"

svc -d /var/qmail/supervise/spamd /var/qmail/supervise/spamd/log

echo "Stopping clamd"

svc -d /var/qmail/supervise/clamd /var/qmail/supervise/clamd/log

sleep 2

echo

svstat /var/qmail/supervise/spamd

svstat /var/qmail/supervise/spamd/log

echo

svstat /var/qmail/supervise/clamd

svstat /var/qmail/supervise/clamd/log

You will need to start the script after every start of the server.

Modify settings in /var/qmail/control/simcontrol appropriately (change "yes"
 to "no"), then run
# qmailctl cdb

You might need to kill a clamd process that doesn't terminate. I'm not sure
about that.

Re: [qmailtoaster] clamd

2008-07-01 Thread Marco Volkert

That's clear. What I meant, when does the cyclus (every 12 hours)
start?
Can I define the time, when the updates start, e.g. 03:17am + 03:17pm,
in /etc/freshclam.conf OR does it depend on service-start? If so, I
need to add a cronjob with #service freshclam restart
to force the time for update after server restart (maybe he has a
failure - somewhere along the way).

Regards,

Marco Volkert

nop,

just edit the file

/etc/freshclam.conf

add Checks 2

so it will check new .dat updates every 12 hours

then to make clamd read the new config, type

service freshclam restart

Can you modify the time of performing an
update this way, or does the time depend on the time when freshclam
starts?

In case two, I can create a cronjob with

#service freshclam restart.

Am I right?

You can modify the frequency that freshclam
performs an update by setting

the Checks variable in the /etc/freshclam.conf configuration file. The

following, for example, would decrease the number of updates to once

12 hours:

# Number of database checks per day.

Checks 2

Additionally I'm getting a lot of duplicate emails and I believe this
is also due to clamd.  Anyone else experiencing this problem and is
there a resolution?

I'm running the following versions:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ rpm -qa | grep qmail

qmail-pop3d-toaster-1.03-1.3.15

qmailadmin-toaster-1.2.11-1.3.4

qmail-toaster-1.03-1.3.15

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ rpm -qa | grep clam

clamav-toaster-0.90.1-1.3.13

Thanks,

Jon

you still running the old version of clamav, some says upgrading to
