[qmailtoaster] Why does a Wm2005 device doesen't delete e-mails through an IMAP account ?
Hi all ! On a windows mobile 2005 device I have replicated an IMAP account so that the user can control e-mails also when he is not in the office . Inbox e-mail works and I can also send a reply or a new message . If I read a received e-mail after the next sync (made by the comand send/receive in outlook mobile) , then through squirrelmail I can see that the message has been read but If I delete this message and then make a resync nothing happens . I mean, message is not deleted on the server. I tried also to remove it from the deleted items of my mobile device and then resync again but in that way , message reappears on Inbox items !??! Does anyone of you have already faced this strange behaviour? Any suggestions ? many thanks in advance Max Italy - QmailToaster hosted by: VR Hosted http://www.vr.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[qmailtoaster] Routing a single mailbox to another server with the same domain
Hi . Is it possible to route all incoming mail for a specific mailbox to another server (internal LAN) ? Ok , I try to explain a little better.. Qmail SERVER A which handles mydomain.com and ,among others, [EMAIL PROTECTED] . What I'd need is to forward all incoming mail for userX which resides on SERVER A to another internal MailServer(lets say SERVER B and also this server has mydomain.com and [EMAIL PROTECTED] created) . Is it possible to do something like that ? I'm not very MS familiar and if some know how to solve issue i will appreciated. Ok...after 4 hours of trials I realized that outlook is not the best choice for handling an IMAP account... 1) In order to store sent e-mails on IMAP sent folder you have to create a rule that moves message where you want . In any case it also stores a copy of the sent message to its .pst file unless you force it not to do it through a parameter. 2) When you delete a message , there is no way to move it automatically on the Trash folder unless you do it manually . Outlook sets the message as deleted but in any case it appears on your screen unless you choose a specific option . The alternative is to select Purge option on the menu .This way you remove it forever. Later I'm gonna explain al these things to my boss and let's see what happens.;-) Maybe he'll finally decide to throw away outlook and switching to thunderbird ... Re: [qmailtoaster] Switching from pop3 to IMAP and how to backup e.mails archives
I don't know the answer to your question for sure, but I think that would do it. I've been (slowly) migrating a few accounts from pop3 to imap too. From what I've seen on the internet though, I'm leery to use Outlook as an IMAP client with Courier. I hear that Outlook does well with Exchange (to be expected), but there have been problems getting it to work well with other IMAP servers. I don't recall any specifics, and YMMV depending on the Outlook version. I'd recommend doing a prototype test with it though before committing to a domain-wide change. What benefit are you trying to achieve? Are there roaming users who need to access their email outside of the office? If so, they could continue to use pop3 and simply leave the email on the server for a period of time (configured in Outlook). Yes , we have 4 sales manager who are often abroad and we recently bought blackberry devices with a wordlwide flatrate contract . What they want is to have a central repository .I mean , if they erase a msg while they are away (i.e with their blackberry) , they don't want to find it again on their desktop pc's once they are in the office. I don't think or better , I wouldn't know how to handle a situation like that with pop3 protocol. About outlook , I've read there were problems with earlier version of this client but fortunately we use the latest version . I'll let you know as soon as possible. Thanks ! [qmailtoaster] Switching from pop3 to IMAP and how to backup e.mails archives
Hi there ! I'm about to switch my 50 users-single domain from pop3 to IMAP4 . Now all desktops ( Xp os with Outlook 2003 ) have their .pst files on a server shared folder . This solution works but now I'd prefer to have all e-mails resident on server plus giving my users the option to replicate their database on local client hard disk (local pst file). Now the question is : how do I move all the e-mails from their pst files to new IMAP folders? In order to have a recoverable backup , is it enough to backup , let's say , daily , /home/vpopmail ? [qmailtoaster] copying users/domains on a different server with different IP
Hi . I'm trying to create a basic failover system not too complex . In other words , I just would like to have my unique domain and user mailboxes replicated on another server . In the event of a crash , the only thing to do for me would be to set on the firewall the backup mail server ip ( incoming mail from my ISP which handles domain and mail) and inform users to use squirrelmail pointing to a different server . The backup/restore scripts seems to be what I need . The only question is : Once restored everything through the restore script , which files should I configure on the new server in order to set the correct different IP ? many many thanks ! Re: [qmailtoaster] copying users/domains on a different server with different IP
I have thought about setting up a backup server for emergencies. But rather than doing it the way you are considering I was going to do it by rsync'ing all of the directories that get used then just having a script that watches the primary machine and changes the IP on the backup box if the primary fails. As far as keeping them synchronized, something like this should work (assuming that you have ssh set up and running on the standard port with the proper keys in place) /usr/bin/rsync -avzog --delete -e ssh mainmachine:/etc/mail /etc/ /usr/bin/rsync -avzog --delete -e ssh mainmachine:/var/lib/mysql /var/lib/ /usr/bin/rsync -avzog --delete -e ssh mainmachine:/home/vpopmail /home/ /usr/bin/rsync -avzog --delete -e ssh mainmachine:/var/qmail /var/ Did I forget any? You might want /var/log/qmail, but that gets large quickly. Run that script once to get it all in place, then put it into a cron job to run every few minutes. That will keep the server in sync with the main one, so all you will need to do is put this server intoplace and it should take over without any problems. -Thanks to everyone for your fast replies ! In fact , this seems to be a much better solution than the one I had in mind ...I'm going to test it right now ! Do you also have an example of the script for controlling the primary machine and switching IP ? Once more , thank you !! - QmailToaster hosted by: VR Hosted http://www.vr.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[qmailtoaster] Sending mail suddendly slooooow!!!
Hi ! Very strange issue here ! I've been using a qmailtoaster 4.2 for 2 years now . Everything ok . Here is my setup : Our ISP handles our domain (e-mails included ) . What I did is just creating a forwarding rules on the firewall which routes e-mails coming from the relaying server of our provider to my internal QMAIL server . Outgoing mails are not directly processed by qmail but routed to the smtp server of our provider . In /etc/resolv.conf I just set 2 dns IP's that are , the IP's provided by our ISP. Today , suddendly , sending an e-mail takes about 30 seconds and a telnet qmail-ip 25 takes the same time . I've to admit I'm a linux newbie and probably something is wrong with my setup but I don't understand what's going wrong now ! [qmailtoaster] Question about IMAP and maximum size
Hi there . I'm using qmaitloaster on a centos 4.2 and about to install a second toaster on a centos 4.4 brand new more powerful server. Just one domain to handle and 60 mailboxes . I'm currently using pop3 as protocol .Each desktop client (outlook 2003) points to a Samba shared folder where .pst file resides. This allows me to have a central shared folder that is backed up on a tape drive each night. I'd like to switch from pop3 to IMAP4 as we'd like to test some blackberry devices and this protocol has been suggested from a technician . No the question : Some clients have more than 10.000 messages in their mailboxes and they keep on growing rapidly . Are there any limitations in using IMAP instead of POP3 ? I mean , is there a maximum size for the folder? Many many thanks in advance. Re: [qmailtoaster] Connection refused for incoming mails.
I haven't seen this error before, and I'm no expert (yet). I honestly don't know. I'm guessing this might be a configuration problem of some sort. Are domain keys set up properly? You can (temporarily) disable domain keys by removing the relevant DK environment variables from /etc/tcprules.d/tcp.smtp, then regenerate the .cdb file: # qmailctl cdb If it still doesn't work after DK is disabled, then that's (obviously) not the problem! I'd also double check your DNS records, especially reverse lookup. It appears that the receiving end (qmail-toaster) is rejecting the connection temporarily (with a not very descriptive message - not nice). This might be indicative of a DNS problem. Then again, it might not. Have you tested receiving from sources other than the tester? Let us know how you progress. Ok , I've an update ! I got it working but I ( and these are things I really hate!!!) , don't actually truly understood why it's now working .Let me explain what I did . My goal was to replicate our main qmail server which is serving our company domain in order to supply redundant services in the case the Qmail nr.1 crashes down . Don't get me wrong , nothing to do with cluster solutions , just a secondary mail server with the same domain structure and obviously the same config. parameters . Our ISP provides us a single big mailbox whose content is forwarded to our public IP ( firewall) and the rerouted to the internal qmail server on port 25 . My idea is that if qmail1 (let's call it that way) goes down , I call my ISP and I provide them another public IP ( redundant firewall , we have 2 adsl lines ) . Qmail2 ( backup server) then gets emails correctly . The only thing my users have to do is to read their e-mails through squirrelmail pointing to the IP of this backup qmail server . Not an elegant solution but for sure a workin' one ! So , I suppose(d) that the two mail servers have to be identically configured and thats what I did . At the end I found out that the problem was related to my tcp.smtp config file which I show you here below : ** QMAIL SERVER NR.2 ( backup ) 127.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=,DKSIGN=/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%/private 10.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=,DKSIGN=/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%/private :allow,BADMIMETYPE=,BADLOADERTYPE=M,CHKUSER_RCPTLIMIT=50,CHKUSER_WRONGRCPTLIMIT=10,DKSIGN=/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%/private QMAIL SERVER NR.1 ( MAIN ) 127.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=,QMAILQUEUE=/var/qmail/bin/simscan 10.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=,QMAILQUEUE=/var/qmail/bin/simscan :allow,BADMIMETYPE=,BADLOADERTYPE=M,CHKUSER_RCPTLIMIT=15,CHKUSER_WRONGRCPTLIMIT=3,QMAILQUEUE=/var/qmail/bin/simscan I started getting the errors already mentioned when I copied the MAIN config file to the backup config file . As the two servers are identical , shouldn't be the same configuration working for both ? By the way , now I can get incoming mails ...during my free time I'll try to understand something more. I suppose is something related to dk as you said Many thanks . [qmailtoaster] Open relay Problem
Hi ! Another question . I've discovered that my QMAIL is an open relay . This is basically due to a specific setting on my IPCOP firewall which has an addon module that provides antivirus and antispam services . Don't ask me why but spamassassin provided by the firewall is much more accurate and that's why I'd like to use it . Copfilter (IPCOP addon ) requires port 25 to be open and the tests I did gave me the confirmation that qmail becomes that way an open relay ...
