[qmailtoaster] migration
hi list, I have a qmt box that I'm using as an gateway for my company and therefore the server have 2 network cards, WAN and LAN. We want to implement a dedicated firewall and we also have a 8 ip's subnet. Can someone guide me what would be the best way to migrate our qmt box behind the nat. And maybe what I need to modify[config files] on my server, besides the ip address. :) Thank you. Tonis

And maybe what I need to modify[config files] on my server, besides the ip address. :) Thank you. Tonis Good move. Off hand, there's not much to do on QMT. I think the normal networking stuff (IP, subnet, gateway) will take care of it, provided that you're not changing any DNS stuff. Check your QMT firewall too. If you're using the one which comes with QMT, you'll need to make a few changes there, including opening it up to certain private addresses (the subnets you're using on your DMZ/LAN). You might want to configure SNAT on the firewall so that your QMT appears to be on a certain one of your 5 (usable) addresses, not the same one as your LAN traffic goes out on. Once you've moved, you'll probably want to turn off IP forwarding in the QMT host, to harden security a (very) little bit. Hi Eric and thank you for your answer. Actually I must change also the real IP, and for that reason I must change the MX record in our dns servers. We will allocate a brand new IP from our 8IP's subnet that is different from the one which the server is running right now. Which will be the best way to do this? I was thinking to declare a new MX record with different priority[higher] in our dns servers and after the propagation is done I will make the changes in our qmt box. Do you have any other suggestions ? Thank you. CJ I have had a look at Monitorix, and had it running at one point. I was interested in it for monitoring multiple VMs. I like the graphs and web interface. I don't like that it requires the whole kit and kaboodle (apache etc) on each machine that's being monitored. I like the architecture of ganglia much better, although ganglia is geared toward clusters to begin with. I did chat online with Jordi briefly at that time. No mention was made of QMT though that I recall. collectl is presently my monitor of choice. I was looking for something which would show me i/o usage per process, and collectl can. It's a pretty impressive piece of software, and it's lean on resources. Monitoring is something I'd like to address with QMT at some point, but it's still a back burner item. If so, it will create the email adress on that domain existing in the defaultdomain. You can use same user on several virtual domains, the difference it`s made by authentification, meaning that users of the domaind contained in defaultdomain can authentify without need to specify the entire email adress. - Qmailtoaster is sponsored by Vickers Consulting Group (www.vickersconsulting.com) Vickers Consulting Group offers Qmailtoaster support and installations.
