I'm building my toaster packages with my own changes with a local
installation of openSuSE Build Service (https://build.opensuse.org).
It could be a great solution to easy build the packages for many distros.

Just my 2 cts.

As I see it, the level of support doesn't change much if we use packages
 that already exist.

My current list of packages that are already in Debian via APT:

 libsrs2, daemontools, ucspi-tcp, clamav, spamassassin,
courier-authlib, courier-imap, maildrop, autorespond, isoqlog, djbdns,
 squirrelmail

This leaves these packages to be ported, unless the QmailToaster
packages that have a correspondent in Debian have something that the
 Debian packages don't:

vpopmail, libdomainkeys, qmail, ripmime, simscan, ezmlm,
 qmail-admin, qmailmrtg

and on my low priority list:

 vqadmin, control-panel

Personally I don't quite see the point of porting packages that already
exist in the distribution. Especially when that list is longer than the
list of packages not in the distro.

If you really want to keep them all in one place, of course, nobody can
stop you from doing that, but I would use the packages from the distro
still when making my package collection rather than porting them from
QmailToaster (which is extra work that has already been done, or so I
 see it).

[qmailtoaster] Qmail Toaster sources code repository?

2008-02-02 Thread Uplink

Hi,

I'm new to the list, but I saw in the archive that just a few days ago
someone asked about Debian packages of QmailToaster. I may be able to
assist with that too.

I'm currently doing something brute that will result in debian packages
when I'm done, but I was wondering if there's a better way to do it. So
I'm asking:

Is there a source code repository with the sources before they become
.src.rpm files? I could use that more efficiently than unpacking the
.src.rpm files on the website in my quest for QmailToaster for Debian.
I'm looking for something like a SubVersioN (SVN) repository, or a
Mercurial (HG) repository that you use. That's because the source code
should already be in unpacked form in there, and if it is, I can easily
create the Debian part because, compared to RedHat's spec files,
creating Debian packages is a piece of cake.

Some packages are already in Debian: daemontools (source), ucspi-tcp
(source, Debian only, not in Ubuntu), clamav, spamassassin, and I think
we can use those as they are, but the rest of the packages have to be
created.

It is my opinion that QmailToaster is the most complete Qmail
compilation out there. Life with Qmail, QmailRocks, Schupp, they all
miss at least one part that I need (for example SMTP AUTH or, worse, the
ability to reject messages to nonexisting accounts instead of bouncing
something back after the fact). I've been using QmailToaster on Fedora
so far, but I'm a Debian fellow myself and I'd like to see QmailToaster
on Debian/Ubuntu too.
