Re: [Qt-creator] Question about QtCreator licensing

2015-06-01 Thread Hunger Tobias
Hi Jochen,

I am not a lawyer, but as I understand it the CLA grants us the privilege to
relicense the code in Qt and Qt Creator (you keep the copyright of course as I
read the text). So the Qt Company can actually do that, which in turn would
mean the text is ok as I understand it.

But again, I am not a lawyer, I mostly just use whichever template I am asked
to put into the code by people that actually know copyright law:-)

Best Regards,
Tobias

[Qt-creator] Question about QtCreator licensing

2015-05-31 Thread Jochen Becher
Hello,

one question to the typical license text that is used for plugins if the
plugin is not copyrighted by The Qt Company: shouldn't it read "In
addition, as a special exception, the copyright holder gives you
certain ..." instead of "... The Qt Company gives you..."?

The Qt Company cannot give additional rights if they do not own the
copyrights, can't they?

Regards, Jochen

Example from ToDo Plugin:

/**
**
** Copyright (C) 2015 Dmitry Savchenko
** Copyright (C) 2015 Vasiliy Sorokin
** Contact: http://www.qt.io/licensing
**
** This file is part of Qt Creator.
**
--- lines deleted ---
**
** In addition, as a special exception, The Qt Company gives you certain
additional
** rights. These rights are described in The Qt Company LGPL Exception
** version 1.1, included in the file LGPL_EXCEPTION.txt in this package.
