Hi Cullen,
So you grew up in St Joe, MI. It isn't too far from here. How did you end up
in Canada? We take a drive up to Union Pier every fall to buy our St Julians
Vinegaret for salads.

Excuses me for reposting but your situation concerns me. Not just the
present state but where it is located. I hope you use sanitizer around the
are. Bowel care will introduce many bad bugs. Speaking with plastic
surgery is not out of line. You do not want just a cover to heal over, thus
the wet to dry is good. Instruct caregivers to keep surrounding area
sanitized. Remember Christopher Reeves and his sore?

My chair both tilts and reclines. Years ago no matter how often I did
pressure releases my skin always broke down. Since getting a new High
Profile, I never do shifts, even over 30 hours. This is not advice, but
those cushions must have the correct cover on, and the right inflation. I
found out the pressure on my own, the pressure mapping did not help. Just
one day it all came together. The cover was one size too large. Some folks
do not even use a cover.

Merrill.

Pressure sores, open wounds, snow flakes, fingerprints and Quads, all have
something in common. They differ so greatly. What might work for 100
people, won't work for 2 others. Hence, it might be more prudent

to consult a wound specialist. Pressure mapping may also be needed to
consider your future prognosis and how you will heal. The band aid approach
hasn't worked in the last 4 years. Now its time to consider a wound
specialist...

Best Wishes

be worth the money (about $1500 out-of-pocket) for me to invest in a tilt
chair? I have a standard invacare arrow now. Would this be a worthwhile
investment or could I spend the money on something more worthwhile? Please
help me guys, especially if you have experience with a tilt chair.

My doc says wet to dry dressing. Here I am one year post surgery and I
still change daily. No one mentioned Silverdine. That is great for burns,
but open incisions?

My heartfelt thanks to all of you who shared your pressure sore advice and
stories with me. So many of you responded I was overwhelmed. A special
thanks to Nicki, David, Mark, Dave, Steve, Dan, John, Tim, Ron, KK. (I
apologize for omitting anyone.) Your suggestions were compassionate and
intelligent. I know of no other place where I could get the input of ten
experts merely by asking. God bless you all.
By the way, I bought the tilt chair and see a wound specialist tomorrow. WW

  Bill

TM is transverse myelitis. It is an inflamation of the nerves in the spinal
cord ,which produces lesions on the spinal cord, and leaves a person paralyzed
from the spot of the lession down. About 1/3 of those affected recover almost
totally, about 1/3 have some recovery and about 1/3 have no recovery, I'm one
of those with no recovery. This is probably not a very good explanation, but
you get the general idea.
