Today, The Miami Project is the world’s most comprehensive spinal cord injury research center, housed in the Lois Pope LIFE Center, a Center of Excellence at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. The Miami Project’s international team of more than 200 scientists, researchers and clinicians take innovative approaches to the challenge of spinal cord injury. Committed to finding a cure for paralysis resulting from spinal cord injury and to seeing millions worldwide walk again, the Buoniconti family established The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis in 1992, a non-profit organization devoted to assisting The Miami Project achieve its national and international goals. The Miami Project’s Human Clinical Trials Initiative will take discoveries found to be successful in laboratory studies and fast track them to human studies with the approval of the FDA. The Miami Project is well positioned and confident that we have the expertise, knowledge and drive to navigate through the FDA process and initiate new human clinical trials involving Schwann Cell Transplantation. This study will be based in part on published work in which Miami Project scientists showed up to 70% return of normal walking function in experimental models. For more than 24 years, The Miami Project has worked carefully and diligently towards this goal and the results show that the time is right to make this important step into humans. Since getting this phone I have medled with it until I can handle it pretty easily. I use a tenodisys(sp) splint to allow me to have pinch in my left hand by lifting my wrist. I can often fiddle and practice movements with devices until I become reasonably comfortable with that device. This phone falls into that catagory. I can usually open it to catch a call or dial or select a number to call. At night I will set it to simply answer automatically on speaker. It even has a charging base I can set it into. It will support a headset while in the base and it has voice recognition so I can say, "call Cathy" or say numbers and it works. I can't take photos but I'm sure that will be on voice command soon. For now I simply ask aids, relatives, etc to get a pic for me. [QUAD-L] Quad-List posting NO TOUCH, Wireless Bluetooth Headset
I recently received an email from an old Internet Friend regarding the lemons to lemonaid thing and hope that everyone takes the time to visit his website and make comments or suggestions regarding his AT Invention. For some Quads, this just might be the answer to your prayers or be a complete nightmare. You be the judge. For the OTs and PTs that review this board... here is a new device worth your time. Re: [QUAD-L] 19 years
Hi Bill and Joan, congratulations on your anniversaries. Wow 41 years Bill. You were really injured at a young age also. Sorry this is late, I hope you both celebrated the success of living. Thank you for sharing. Dana In a message dated 10/14/2009 4:06:39 P.M. Central Daylight Time, mikeybird...@embarqmail.com writes: You should've started earlier, Joan. LOL I started this "journey" 41 years ago. I'm now 59. I come from long-lived people. My great-great grandfather lived to be 92, my great grandfather lived to be 96, my grandfather lived to 98. My dad died at 70 because he smoked 3 packs a day. My mom lived to 93. Looks like I may have another 30-35 years here. I am now 70 ½-that can’t be true either. JIf I had a choice would I do it over again? Most emphatically yes. I have three grandchildren I would not have seen otherwise, one great granddaughter, a great granddaughter due in December, and a granddaughter due in January. What more can a grandma ask for? I am not looking forward to some of the things that lie in the future-probably more skin problems because of thinning skin-worse hearing that I have now-right now my Some Timers Disease is OK, but maybe it will get worse and I suppose I could find a bunch more. I Am looking forward to some of the things that live in the future-new grandchildren and great grandchildren, watching the others grow up and tackle life as best they can, finishing my garden (probably not), enjoying the greenhouse and fresh tomatoes in winter, staying involved in youth activities (I love to see how children get comfortable with me in the wheelchair and only think of me as a lady who uses a wheelchair to get around rather than a disabled person), maybe writing a book-don’t know who would read it but I might enjoy writing it-, helping friends and family landscape their houses-I get the fun part, designing it, they get the fun part of doing it-continue taking a couple of college courses that interest me. OK, I guess I get it. My list as much longer for things I want to do than it is for things I’ m afraid of. So I will continue on my merry way-probably not for another 19 years although my mother lived until 91 after suffering a major stroke 19 years before, so who knows what is my lifeline to be. Glad I have this list to belong to-it is good to share with others in the same boat. Joan _avast! Antivirus_ (http://www.avast.com/) : Inbound message clean.
