I just realized today is the day I broke my neck; 22 yrs ago today, half of my life I have been paralyzed. Just glad to be alive and still kickin’; even if the kickin' is spasm induced…. Ha-ha! ~peace~ Tim c5-c6, 22 yrs. post http://www.whoopiekat.com/CrocksCrib/index.htm
Re: [QUAD-L] vitamin D deficiency....
I read that people with depression have low vitamin D levels. anybody with depression should get theirs checked. You can get it free from the sun. That may explain why we get fewer colds in the summer... then the winter as we absorb the sunlight each day. Having large amounts of Vitamin D in our system, allows us to absorb other vitamins like A, B and C. Lacking vitamin D in your system may also mean that you are not absorbing the equally important C and infections. Enjoy the sun and get your Vitamin D. I think it was up to 50 they were happy and told me to just continue taking 1200 mg of calcium and 800 mg of vitamin D per day. I am a 51 year-old woman, and my last bone scan did show that I had osteoporosis. So in addition to the heavy-duty vitamin D for 12 weeks, I also had to take reclast. It is a once a year IV med for osteoporosis. Re: [QUAD-L] anniversary....
I wish you the best day on this day of your injury 22 years ago. I hope you treat yourself to something that you want to do as you deserve it after 22 years in our quadriplegic world. I always try to find a concert I want to see. I wish you many more years. I always pray that there are new innovations developed and research to help us live more comfortably as we age. Re: [QUAD-L] condom/texas catheter
Yep, haven't noticed one in quite awhile. Use to every time my cath was changed lol, Greg-- i think the swelling is what they call a built in french tickler, it may have been it got pinched or stuck to tape or etc. If it goes down in 3 days or so, probably be fine. Also not to be vulger but a question kinda along these lines for the menMy 1st 2 or 3 years as a quad I got erections very often and would have sexual dreams from time to timenow days either is pretty rare, I am 53 now so may be getting over the hill anyhow- lol ( is that similar to any of you other guy's ? ) .
Re: [QUAD-L] Tilting back and cold
Even when I'm over heated, once I lay down I feel cold. Not a normal feeling cold, I can feel the heat coming off my body, but I can't keep from pulling the blanket over my face. I wake up feeling like I'm freezing, even shivering. But lifting the blankets I can feel heat coming out. My room is 80 degrees. I have to force myself to lower the blankets and pull my arms out. After a bit I stop shivering and then I can notice how hot I am, even overheated. Must be some kind of AD. When I feel cold like this, it's not the AD like when I sweat my hands turn ice cold, my body is actually too hot, just feels like I'm freezing. Greg I get cold in bed also. I don't get too warm until the morning hours. I just chalked it up to my thermostat not working after changing positions from up to down.
Re: [QUAD-L] Tilting back and cold
I have those same type of episodes myself Greg-- can come or go at different times, often it's after i lay down in bed--I have to do the same thing with the blankets, pull them over my head at times even though I feel hot and clammy but cold or chilled at the same time. I have told my wife, that it's just weird and hard to explain. Dan H.
