I meant sex hasn't caused me to have a uti. Infections are surley possible

hi, Quadius--I use latex also--they are more flexible than the stiffer silicone
ones. Yes, if you did not have a lot of sediment, it is probably stones, I had
a
large one removed 4 1/2 years ago. If you get stopped due to any stonesjust
have your caregiver slightly move the catheter out a bit or flush.  Dan H.

Sorry I didn't mention this sooner, but I have a suprapubic catheter which is
Latex, but I am allergic to silicone catheters. Whenever I have a silicone
catheter in my bladder it spasms so bad that I'm not able to do
anything.Hopefully by Tuesday I'll be able to figure out what's going on. Today
the catheter clogged and when we cleared it there was not one bit of sediment.
I
really think there are some stones in there.
Thanks for the feedback.

2011-07-08 Thread wheelchair
For a limited few,(and I mean few) it can be done. But consider all the
bacteria in that area plus and friction causing internal abrasion and further
infections. Surprising, you are not the first to ask or inquire. I've
heard of partners catching an infection from a partner or spouse who had a
budding infection and didn't realize it.
A SP, helps with having sex as it clears the way with no obstructions.

For quads who have wanted to utilize an iPad, iPhone, or other tablet or
smartphone touchscreen device but have been unable to or unsure as to how to
do so, there is at least one solution available. It's called the iBility
Stick. You can learn more about it at:

Re: [QUAD-L] burning sensation in bladder

2011-07-08 Thread Dan
Have you tried a Foley just to see if it makes a difference as the
cath's balloon would be located in a different location.

Dan

At 06:40 PM 7/7/2011, Quadius said something that elicited my response:

Sorry I am responding so late, but I have been having several
complications because of a terrible burning in my bladder. I have
been experiencing this problem since September of last year. The
doctors seem to think it is caused by my catheter rubbing up against
the back of my bladder. I have tried to tether the catheter to my
abdomen so it won't rub up against the back, but I still have a
burning sensation, most likely caused because the catheter is to taut.

I have been able to take some medication which has helped
significantly with the burning pain, but I have noticed that when I
am sitting more upright in my wheelchair the burning pain is
definitely exacerbated. Therefore I have been opening the hip angle
of my chair using my recline feature on my wheelchair. This has
helped, but I have been spending too much of my time till to back
because of the pain and ended up getting a pressure ulcer just above
my tail bone.

After nine days in bed to remedy this problem, I developed a problem
with my lungs and almost had to be hospitalized for a lengthy stay
because of pneumonia. I'm on the road to recovery and have a
cystoscopy (I think that's the name for it) scheduled on July 12. I
also suspect there might be some stones floating around in my
bladder, but they have not shown on sonograms or CAT scans as of yet.

As for the medication that helps, I can't recall the name right now,
but it does have its limitations. It can only be taken for a couple
of days at a time, however, it does enable me to do things except
sit around the house in misery.

Take care and I'll hope your son is able to remedy a situation soon.
