Shirley,
I definitely have a few things I'd like to share with Amara for her
conference on spinal cord injury. Let me think about it and get back to you.

[QUAD-L] input needed

2012-10-13 Thread shirley bell
Hi guys, read this letter below and send me your thoughts. Amara is a good
friend and will make a great primary care Dr..and I will pass all input along
to her for her conference. Thanks. shirley bell Hi Shirley,

I hope you're doing well!!

In a few weeks I'm going to be the senior teaching residents for two
weeks, which means I get to give 5 conferences to the entire resident
class (not everyone can make it, but the slides are available for
everyone who can't come). I wanted to do one of my presentations on
caring for patients with spinal cord injuries, as you had told me that
most doctors don't know enough about this!

I wanted to let you know, in case you had any particular things you
thought might be important for me to relate to my fellow residents.
I'll be using various resources to prepare for the talk, including the
textbook you gave me.

Bob mine used to wear out fast too and was hard on my elbows, I started
ordering
medical sheepskin wheelchair arm rest covers and they really help mei get
mine from 1shop4u.com a furniture type store that sells medical sheepskin
products also--They can be ordered in like 10 or more different colors, just
tell them the size and they custom make them to fit--I get mine in charcoal
grey because that goes good with my black powerchair.     Dan H.

Wow, I thought it was just me.  I pull left also, always have!  It wears-out my
left elbow in anything long-sleeved, as well as my left-armrest, and even the
left thigh on my pants (from pushing/holding myself upright all the time).  In
bed, it's hard to sit-up straight without pillows to hold me up, or side-rail
to
push-off of (or trapeze to "grab" to adjust my torso.

In my chair(s) I have a "Jay Jay2 Deep-Contour Back", which helps A LOT to stay
upright while sitting.  See http://bit.ly/REoIQC

Still, it's tricky trying to lean forward with something in my hands sometimes:
I'll veer off to the side and have to upright myself, and try again.  Mostly I
counter the tendency by leaning way right, before and as I lean forward.

[QUAD-L] Lateral

2012-10-13 Thread Gah17582
Over many years I struggled with very bad posture. I leaned very far to
the right and at times found it to be very uncomfortable. The biggest issue
I had was while driving and making a left turn. This would cause me to
lean even farther.

I took a plastic lateral from an old wheelchair that I had salvaged.

I took off the metal piece and placed the plastic piece in the corner of
the chair, which helped to hold me somewhat straighter, making quite a
difference in comfort and when I drive.

I also had an issue where my left hip would migrate against the side of the
chair. I placed a foam cushion on the left side of my chair before seating
and it helps to hold me somewhat straighter.

Each body and situation are different and what works for one person may not
work for another. Age and gravity are taking its toll, sometimes you just
need to give it a gentle nudge the other way.

Good luck,

Glenn

I've noticed I lean to the left myself, especially in pictures. You can have
lateral supports installed on your chair that will help for support.

Yes, I tried out rear and mid and I tried mid in my van. I believe it will take
me just a short while till I get the Knack of handling the mid … after all I've
been using power chair's for 35 years.
I remember my very FIRST power chair, it was an Everest & Jennings sling
seat and back, belt driven and would make a high pitch "misquote" sound as I'd
ride about. Back in 1977 you basically had to choose between small, medium &
large. Ask Wheelchair I'll bet he could tell you stories. Bobbie

Fwd: [QUAD-L] Question

Sounds very familiar, Bob. It translates into a giant pain in the anus that
makes difficult tasks even more difficult. Just what we quads need, another
challenge. :)

Fwd: [QUAD-L] Question

2012-10-13 Thread lwillis821
This problem seems to be a lot more common than I thought. It makes sense that
sitting for years would make a person grow crooked (not to mention crazy). I
think it is a serious issue that we need to keep each other informed about. It
seems that age adds a new problem to our lives every week. Nay -- every day.
God bless, my friends. Larry
