[QUAD-L] Hand controls for a Ford Fullsize Van or other

2018-11-07 Thread RONALD L PRACHT
Hey I have a perfect set of Monarch 1-A hand controls that were on my 84 Ford
Van for 2 yrs until the engine blew. The state bought them for me and paid like
1500.00 with all the options back in the early 2000s. They are push for brake,
pull down for gas. Im a c7 and they worked well for me. I have all the linkages
to connect to the gas and brake. They could be used for other vehicles with
different mounting kits. i can get numbers, pics or whatever if someone on here
is interested. I will make you a better deal than you could ever get depending
on shipping cost. im in St. louis. They were stored indoors so great condition.

Re: [QUAD-L] Baclofen Pump

Hello Paul
I have a friend of mine that uses one. He was having problems keeping
spasms under control so he switched to a pump. As far as I know he still
likes it.

[QUAD-L] Water reservoirs and silly straws?

2018-11-07 Thread Randy Anderson
Hello
As far as drinking water, coffee or anything else as a C 4/5 quadriplegic
paralyzed from the neck down using a power wheelchair with sip-n-puff
controls.
For cold or hot water I use an insulated mug and cover along with 18 inch
flexible straws, that I place on my wheelchair table inside a mug holder
that is secured to the tabletop.
I also use a Camel-bak (there are other brands). It is a small insulated
backpack with a water reservoir inside with a tube that is fairly long. For
me I mount the tube of the Camel-bak on to the tube for my sip and puff
control with zip ties and the bite valve for the Camel-bak within reach of
my mouth. My particular Camel-bak has 100 ounce reservoir but you can get
smaller ones also. These are not necessarily cheap but other brands are
better price.

I like my coffee and I like it hot and I like it hot for a long time.
I use the same straws that I mentioned above but the problem is the coffee
stays hot for too long. I think somebody should invent or maybe somebody
knows of a straw, that is fairly long and you can sip on the coffee until
it gets close to your mouth and then stopped sipping, and then the coffee
would stay in the straw at the point where you stopped sipping because of
a" check valve" installed in the straw towards the bottom of it. The coffee
that is being held in the straw should cool off fairly quickly and after
you sip about the cooled coffee, it starts cooling more hot coffee over
again. Think of something like a "silly straw", a long straw with loops,
turns and twists that would hold a fair amount coffee but still be fairly
short and easy to use (maybe 12 to 15 inches or so).
In this case a check valve would probably be a small piece of plastic with
a BB inside it, that is inside the straw. When you suck on the straw the
suction would cause the fluid to rise up while raising the BB up inside the
valve and when you stop sucking the BB drops to the bottom of the valve
closing it, and the coffee in the straw does not siphon back into the
container where the coffee is.
I would think there would be something like this out there, or maybe I need
to invent it myself.
Remember, you heard it here first :-)

Re: [QUAD-L] It's hard

2018-11-07 Thread Randy Anderson
Sometimes when I find myself frustrated quite often it's about the same
things (something my aides do or don't do, something not quite right with
my accessibility equipment, friction between myself and family…). On a lot
of these things it frustrates me but I just let it ride, and don't do
anything about it. Sometimes maybe I just need to say something and the
situation may change for the better and sometimes not. Most of my problems
are with my aides. There are actually pretty good but I find myself just
putting up with a small little things that I should try to have them
correct.
I have been with the same agency for 20 years and only this one since my
accident, so I have nothing to compare it to. But I remember during rehab
they would discuss how hard it is to sometimes find a good agency. Not that
the agencies are necessarily terrible but that it can be hard for them to
find good and dependable help.
Personally, I consider myself fairly lucky. Since the kids left the house
it's just me and my wife and we do pretty well, but many times she feels
that the aides could do more for me and also a better job regarding the
homemaking that is offered.
During rehab they stressed that you're your best advocate (I know we've all
heard that before :-). We should try to teach our aides the way we would
like to have things done, while also listening to their suggestions should
they have some. That we need to get our point across without getting too
difficult or bitchy that they can no longer get along with us, to the point
where they ask their agency to take us self their client list. Sometimes I
get too close to my aides and consider them friends, and that can
complicate things a little. I need to keep in mind that they don't work for
me but for their agency, and their agency works for me. Sometimes I feel
they take my normally good nature for granted, and this wears on me. But I
just need to take care of business and not worry so much about their
feelings but those of myself and myself towards my wife and hers towards
me. It can be complicated, no doubt.

[QUAD-L] Chair Repo

2018-11-07 Thread Greg
I got a new chair this year, then 6 months later I get a call from my
insurance saying THEY WANT IT BACK...

I was on one Network, they bought the chair. 6 months later I changed
Networks. They say they want the chair back and I need to get a new
chair from the new Network. Their reason is, they say it was a "2 Year,
Rent To Own". They say it was not paid off yet.

I'm appealing, asking the new Network to just continue payments. It
would save the new Network 50% over a new chair. The big issue is the 2
Networks use different chair dealers.

Its just a big Fuster Cluck.

I'm trying to get a van I can drive, this puts a hold on that. Because
they need to make sure the chair fits in the van, right height, line of
sight, etc.

RE: [QUAD-L] employer/employee contracts to share

2018-11-07 Thread Dave Krehbiel
Dana, sorry to hear about the third-degree burns.

I bought an oven thermometer for less than 10 dollars so that aides can easily
check the temperature of my coffee.

My aides like it, as they are being careful not to give me something that’s too
hot.

I enjoy it, because I can safely enjoy coffee at my favorite temperature
(between 139-140 degrees Fahrenheit).

Take care,

Drink aide has gone out of business, so the fleximug is a safer choice. I have
had the drink aide for several years, and we’ve replaced the mug itself with a
generic one. I also have another large drink cup that we put a long flexible
straw in and zip tie it to a roll around stand so I can always get more to
drink.

Wondered if anyone would be willing to share employer/employee contracts
they have figured out. I would appreciate any help.

Thank you, Dana C 4-5, 44Years post good yeah they are

I wanted to share with you In great insulated glasses. They have a number of
links Of adjustable straws by Fleming Fleximug. I have been using Drink Aide
. My straw broke allowing siphoning causing third-degree burns and I had to
have surgery and skin graph. You can buy them through Amazon or Fleming. They
were made for a mother with MS. I had a wound VAC and I had to be
hospitalized. They are expensive but well worth that cost. They can be use for
cold or hot drinks.

Yes, Android, moto g6. When first deciding on which phone to get I could not
find any way to control and iphone from a Windows pc. I can mirror an
iphone/ipad to my pc but can't control it. With Android I can use my pc (with
my adaptive keyboard/mouse) to control the phone.

I am now using Vyor Pro https://www.vysor.io/

It works pretty much the same as Mobizen but nothing needs to be running on the
phone.

of independence as I now I don’t have to ask for help with my phone. Each and
