Hello Everyone - My name is Kevin, I am an Assistive Technology Trainer and
am currently working with a client who has extremely limited mobility. I am
training her in the use of Dragon Naturally Speaking (which is going very
well) however as Dragon is only useful when the computer is on, I am left
with the problem of how to initially boot the computer. I have been doing
research but have been unable to resolve this issue any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Different strokes for different folks as always but am I alone in thinking
that it seems to be something that teenagers would do? On the flip side, we
are all young at heart so it is a different kind of fun for those that have
the time to keep up with it, etc.!

I have a question. I have been using a head control unit ,I have been having
some neck control problems and my OT thinks I should go to chin control unit
that I would wear like a harness on my upper chest. I am on a vent. I was
wondering if a sip and puff system might not be better. When I brought up
the sip and puff option, it was said that getting the system adjusted in was
complicated and keeping it adjusted in was hard. If anyone can shed some
light on this subject, I would appreciate it.

Lots of people say they have had it or are carriers. The reason it is
called methiline-resistant is because it is resistant to ALL antibiotics.
And that is also why it is called the superbug. If someone was told that
they had MRSA and was given an antibiotic and it took care of it... it had
to be an infection of another sort. MRSA is resistant to all the
antibiotics on the market today. That is WHY it is such a huge concern.

But if a lay person is unable to read their own lab reports, etc. (which is
most people)... doctors can tell their patients anything and most of the
time people believe them.

Truthfully... I don't think doctors want to start a panic so that is why
they tell patients what they do. Or they are required by law to say this or
that not to start a panic.

Silas,
Lori is the syrinx expert but me and Dan also have them. Ive had mine for
about 4 years.

Basically its complicated yet simple, you either leave it alone and monitor
the pain, or you find an expert to collapse the syrinx or put a shunt valve
in.

I talked with Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colorodothey agreed to
collapse the syrinx but wouldnt take United Heathcare.price was 50,000.
i had one doc in St. Louis that would do it but he was unexperienced and he
would only perform shunt surgery to drain it.

All my other docs said the risk was too great to perform surgery on a quad
because sometimes you can lose a few levels of function during the surgery.
I was also told that most neurosurgeons wont operate unless you report lose
of function. Pain isnt a reason for surgery they say...but that is
crazy

The risk of functional loss during surgery is 10 percent. The possibility of
alleviating the pain is 50/50.

Ive spent many, many hors researching this. Have read everything on the net.
Have a whole syrinx folder.

Remember what you have is a Post Traumatic Syrinx, not just a syrinx or a
chairi malformation.

The spinal injury forms a dormant cyst, then as the years go by the cyst
fills with spinal fluid creating the syrinx. The fluid can go in but it cant
go out.

Any lifting, straining, coughing, bending, breathing can possibly make it
worse.crazy but the truth..I about cried when I was first told
that.

Why is it hard to believe>? In St. Louis, Missouri area where I live -- a
few months ago they stole a Van and a disabled childs powerchair with it. In
the U.S.A. cars , vans and trucks get stolen every several minutes around
the clock.Criminals do not care if it hurts you or leaves you helpless or
even causes you to die. A paraplegic friend of mine had someone steal his
roho seat cushion causing him to get pressure sores. Dan H.

I have 2 chairs I'm trying to donate, but not having much luck.

Anyone in the AZ area who can use them. Free

1. Invacare Arrow, about 10 years old, tilt/recline, power legrest, needs
batteries and air in tires.

2. Permobil Chairman, about 6/7 years old, tilt/recline, power legrest, seat
elevator, needs batteries and has a crack in the frame. My chair shop would
not weld for liability issues, but Permobil says they have a fix.

First I was trying for a Tax right off. But to get a high value now
(something like over $500) your supposed to get a letter from the place on
their letterhead, plus an expert to give a value to them. I could not find
any place close that wanted them. Only 1 place, but it was for-profit place.
I just know I had to pay lots of money to get my chairs fixed over the years
(20% co pays). Someone must want them for parts at least.

Let me know soon, or they go to the for-profit shop.

Apria told me that if you have private insurance that they pay for all of

that is true with all companies, but it was just lucky that my claims had
been enough that I did not have to pay anything towards the chair.

I have a Jouse2. http://www.jouse.com/
I don't have much neck movement so I find it a little difficult to
accurately move a joystick. I do like it for the built in morse code
function.

You might want to try the Darci USB, a Morse code based computer access
device.
http://www.westest.com/darci/index.html

I don't use voice control, I use morse code by sip and puff. See my web page
at htt <http://www.makoa.org/jlubin/morsecode.htm> '
p://www.makoa.org/jlubin/morsecode.htm for more on using morse code for
computer access.

This air service isn't available yet for your trip in April but it looks
promising

Hi,

Would you guys mind sharing which airlines you have had success with and
which ones you have not and why

I am traveling to Fort Myers from San Diego in April with my wife. I'm a
c5/6 quad and our flight has one stop requiring a change of planes.

Also, we need to rent a 6ft ramp, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!
Paul
