[QUAD-L] 40 Year Anniversary

2008-06-07 Thread nlgillen
Yippie!? I made it.? How mny other "old timers" are out there???

Yes, I celebrate.? Forty years ago they gave me a 5% chance of living - and
here I am 40 years later.

Now going for the next milestone ... 50 years!

I have a great life.? Yes, it has it's ups and downs - like spending 2 1/2
months in a nursing home healing a pressure sore or gaining way too much weight
and not being able to shed it, or living in cold, cold, cold?NY State (well not
cold this week).?

My husband and I?celebrated 30 year together last year - even though he "came
out" to me after 26 years of marriage ...? THAT was a surprise!!? He is still
my best friend.

I have my sons, my grandchildren, my miniature horses and my 3 Labs (17 puppies
at the moment!!) and my friends.

Life is good.? I celebrate life!

Well, sorry to make?this short but sweet, so much has happened over the years I
could go on & on . But, I have a horse show tomorrow so have to get to bed.

My parting words were written by someone else, but they fit so well: "Life
should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a
well preserved body, But rather to slide in sideways, Chocolate in one hand,
Strawberries in the other, a body worn out,
used up and? screaming as loudly as possible,'Woo Hoo, What a ride'!!!"

Have any of you that drive had someone say to you that they would never ride with you? I have a friend of 25 yrs whom our kids grew up together and is one of those who actually stayed a friend after an sci injury. She said this to me 10 yrs ago when I began  driving. A situation came up & I said, well you can ride with me. She replied I told you I'd never ride with you. This really ticked me off. To me it's offending my injury and how I overcome it. I wouldn't tell a blind person I won't eat your cooking, how can you cook if you can't see?!!! Sorry, but I have to vent...What would some of you say to this remark?

Have a nice walk - I'll see you when you get there!

Exactly W.  Thanks for clarifying for me.

The reason for looking at FL is that my oldest son lives there - and I went to college there, so I wouldn't be totally alone.  My option w/ son #2 is ... NORTH DAKOTA!  Now, I'm sure that most quads are just DYING to move to the Northwest corner of ND ... but that just doesn't cream MY twinkie!! ;)  The only other relative I have is my druggie brother that can't even take care of himself ... No Thanks!

Thanks for all the links.

[QUAD-L] Need Input From Central Florida Folks!

2006-01-03 Thread Nlgillen

Hi All,

I am contemplating making a huge life change ... I may be leaving my husband of 29 years, and if I do, I'm NOT staying in New York!!

My 25 year old son lives in Orlando.  I know he will help as much as he can, but he's going to school and bartending at night.  I know I'll need help getting to bed and up in the AM ... all the personal care stuff.  I might be able to live w/ my son for a while, but I'd prefer my own place.  I have no income and very little savings.  Is there anything I'd be eligible for in the greater Orlando area?

Any ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated !!!

And if any of u old timers want to know what the heck is going on ... just drop me a note!

Thanks, Nan
