[QUAD-L] BACLOFEN PUMP
Hi, anyone using one open to sharing your experience with the pump with me privately? Strongly thinking about it as abdominal/leg spasms have become very disruptive. Thank you, Paul c5/6 complete
Re: [QUAD-L] Baclofen Pump
Hello Paul I have a friend of mine that uses one. He was having problems keeping spasms under control so he switched to a pump. As far as I know he still likes it. Re: [QUAD-L] Baclofen pump
I have had great results with pump. It is best thing could have ever happen to me. But last year the incesion did reopen and I was rushed to hospital. I had to replace it, but had to wait two wks. Then i had withdrawels it was awful. I was very scared. But honestly only get it if you can't tolerate the oral stuff. Try not to place close to hip line hard to wear jean, pants, etc. From: Monty To: Sharon Hiatt ; quadriplegic Sent: Wed, March 10, 2010 10:19:49 AM Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] Baclofen pump I am 16 1/2 years post injury at 3/4 complete and take baclofen three times a day with pretty decent results! Another part of spasms is the lack of range of motion and I do range of motions almost everyday and sometimes twice. Being 6 foot tall personal-care would be almost impossible without it and to keep myself in my chair without finding somebody all of the time to put it back up a limb or two. I have gone a few days without them and then takes another 3 to 4 days to get my muscles to relax once again. I think changing positions either in bed or the chair can assist in cutting down the number of spasms. I have a tilt system on my chair and alternating air mattress on my bed. RE: [QUAD-L] Baclofen pump
the only negative we've had: the pump has to be replaced when the battery is old...in the first part of this century the battery/computer had to be replaced every five years. now, they apparently last 7 or 8 years. My husband is on his third pump and it will need to be replaced next year. Each time you replace it, you have to go through the surgery and therefore there's a chance of infection. The infection is not likely but it did happen to us once. That was not a fun experience. The infection was not the result of the pump itself, but rather the infection suceptibility of an incision site. -Original Message- From: wheelch...@aol.com [mailto:wheelch...@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, March 10, 2010 9:48 AM To: roo...@verizon.net; quad-list@eskimo.com Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] Baclofen pump Only if your doctor believe that you are a candidate for the pump, would I recommend it. Re: [QUAD-L] Baclofen Pump?
Its not something you choose first but rather determine if you are a candidate for the pump. Once that is determined, then you can decide if you really want it. Hope your friend is a good candidate for the pump. Best Wishes In a message dated 7/29/2008 8:13:10 P.M. Re: [QUAD-L] Baclofen pump
Hello Lori, Yes I do seem to linger here on the quad-list until I got something to contribute to the list like I posted about having a Baclofen Pump. I do not think it is wise to add anymore than you have to to your body to get relief. My Muscle Spazms are really terrible on my Stomach area cause when I have them they contract right around my Belly area and then make my legs shake like a Tuna Fish out of water. But telling someone else what not to do to themselves is buttin in so, I just Hope All goes Well for Amye ( Little Quad ). Re: [QUAD-L] Baclofen pump
Sorry for the late response... I have a baclofen pump, had the surgery last year. I actually got it for pain relief, to see if it would help my severe nerve pain and so that I would not have to take oral baclofen since I have burning pain in my abdomen and always suspected oral baclofen could be the cause or part of the cause. I have a local anesthetic, bupivacaine, also in the pump with the baclofen to try and get pain relief, but I'm almost at the maximum dosage and it has not helped at all.So far I don't regret getting the pump, especially if I eventually get pain relief from some medication in it. It has been good for my spasms as well. The surgery itself went well, but I ended up getting spinal meningitis from the surgery three weeks later and ended up in the hospital for three days and on a pic line IV for three weeks at home afterwards. Everything has went smoothly since then, except for not getting pain relief like I had hoped. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
