Re: [QUAD-L] Covid and Vaccine

2021-11-21 Thread Dana Wray
That was a great article, I didn't get the doctors name, but he was
fabulous. Has anyone on the quad list had Covid and welcome to treatment to
think. How do they go about getting treatment at home and not go to the
hospital? I'm taking vitamin D3, vitamin C, zinc and I don't think my
vitamin C have bioflavonoids. Those are the best to take the article said.
I also take Vitamin E, vitamin B12 and a vitamin B complex, cranberry
capsules my zinc is a prescription dose. I need to get a list of what I
take and how much to compare with everyone else on the list. My problems
usually come from kidney stones, kidney infections and pneumonia. When I
get stones they will put urostomy tubes in my kidneys to drain. I had from
June-August until they get exploratory surgery to look for kidney stones.
They seem to have disappeared, the doctors could figure it out. My scan
showed lots of kidney stones. They kept me in the hospital for the
infection 10 days on a lot of IV. Antibiotics. Does anyone else battle
kidney stones. I have a son ileoconduit that causes stones. I got this is a
result of water cancer in 1986. Colon cancer in 2014, then I had to have my
ileoconduit replaced in 2014. Did you know they wear out. The stoma becomes
so small it will no longer drain urine from the kidneys.

Thank you for the great YouTube was such an accomplished physician and
researcher. I didn't catch his name. He would be a good one to follow. Did
anybody write his name? He might be on Twitter.

What vitamins do my fellow quads take. I need to make a list of the
milligrams I take. I know what I take I just don't know the exact
milligrams. That would be helpful if we compared notes.

Thank you so much for the information given to me by Eric Olson and Jim
Lubin. I am using Norco. I had trouble getting them started and . I am
waiting on my next shipment.. So they are behind still. I never knew would
be so hard finding a company that made suction catheters. I'd have the same
company for so many years before they got bought out. The company they were
sold to still keep sending emails asking me if I want to order, but they
will never answer the phone. I would complain about their customer service.
I don't know if it is the Medicare reimbursement or just lack of employees.
Our local Hy-Vee while staying open until midnight but now they're closing
at 11 PM. They have trouble getting personnel also.

This country is really a mess. All we can do is pray. I was listening to my
answer machine and I ran across the message from Lori Michelson. So sad to
hear her voice and realize that I'll never talk to her again until Heaven.

I didn't have a reaction to either shot (Moderna). Most of my other
caregivers have also been vaccinated. Symptoms for them ranged from
nothing to fever, chills, body aches, fatigue. All seemed to resolve
within 24-48 hours. I only had 1 caregiver (who's a bit of a
hypochondriac) say her fatigue lasted over a week

*Stressing that this is my opinion:* I live in Arkansas and there was a
full lockdown for a couple months. Following federal recommendations. I'd
say early June everyone seemed to realize that if you're under 70 and don't
interact w/ the over 70 year old population, then the symptoms and
infection were no worse than a 3-4 day cold/flu. Everything opened up and
has been since (restaurants excluded). So, I personally, do not feel at any
more risk from this than getting the flu from someone (For my own reasons
I've not taken a flu shot in over 20 years). I really lean on healthy
living, eating good foods, and vitamins. (exercise when I can)

Long path to my point: Your odds vary based on your lifestyle. I think
50/50 odds going to work would be true if you purposely seek out sick
people. Everyone is a 'raw nerve' right now regarding this. You are
probably safer than ever going to work.

Re: [QUAD-L] COVID-19, SCI and going back to work

2020-07-15 Thread Aaron Mann
C4/5 @ 15, 31 yrs post, Network Engineer past 20yrs

I've been very fortunate to have been working from home since this whole
thing started. They also have all sorts of guidelines in effect. The big
rub is that the required guidelines present barriers to the workplace
preventing me from being able to physically be present. I cannot put
on/remove a face mask or thoroughly clean my hands and desk reliably.

Anyway, on to your situation:

1. They are following distancing guidelines
>>
>
Ask any Dr 'distancing' only helps if you're the one that's sick. If so,
you shouldn't be out anyways. (true regardless of illness; cold, flu, etc)

2. My states case numbers are steady and relatively low / low positive rate
>>
>
Do your own research on this, but too many sources are cropping up that
show the states are not calculating and/or reporting the stats properly
(check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFnUGSr3fw0 Good
mask wearking facts too)

3. I take public transportation there
>>
>
Probably at the same risk as before COVID. Public transportation is a
natural petri dish.

4. My work does not require much face to face work with the public- desk
>> job.
>>
>
Can you justify working from home?

5. All guidance on SCI shows that we are at higher risk
>>
>
SCI are at higher risk from any 'breathing affecting' illness. Bad colds,
Flu (Corona virus btw), COVID, etc. The risk of becoming infected is NOT
greater, just the effects IF infected.

6. Very little actual outcome based results on COVID and SCI. Only a single
>> case study
>>
>
*My opinion:* I think it is the immune compromised who are experiencing the
severe effects of COVID. I believe that if you are generally healthy with a
good immune system, then getting COVID is similar to getting a bad cold or
flu. Both of which I've had numerous times. I do take several immune
boosting vitamins as a preventative measure and am aware of those around me
exhibiting signs of illness.

7. I live in a place where community transmission has been active for a
>> while and may have had it asymptomatically already.
>>
>
Me too!

8. I'm typically pretty healthy (besides UTI, occasional skin breakdown)
>>
>
Me too!

9. One of my caregivers has emphysema
>>
>
This one's tough because your circle is their circle and vice versa. I
assume they go to the store, get stuff for home, maybe a restaurant? If so,
that's no different from you going to/from work. Both of you being
conscientious of each other in your interactions. My attendant and family
do that for me too.

10. I'm not impacted economically either way
>>
>
I like to see fellow SCI working when and if they can. Get back on the
horse as soon as you are set for care.

11. If I do come down with it mildly symptomatic, it may be difficult to
>> get my caregivers to show up. I would likely need to be hospitalized due to
>> lack of care- even with mild symptoms.
>>
>
Have the conversation w/ your caregiver(s). Make a plan, because the
hospital is the last place you want to be. I think you in a mask and them
with gloves, mask, and washing/purelling religiously would be safe enough.
(consult your Dr on this)

12. I'm getting bored staying home
>>
>
I too have binged everything Prime, Netflix, Hulu, and Youtube have to
offer. Want to zoom or Skype sometimes just hit me up!

13. Due to lack of human connection while isolating, I could see myself
>> taking part in - or may have already taken part in activities that could be
>> more risky than work.
>>
>
Like "I bet I can use those stairs going down if I just go fast enough" or
"Can I eat just one Lays chip". No, seriously the odds are you have and
will do things that everybody is ram-rodding into our heads as dangerous.
We face danger every day (if we're living life). I still go places and
enjoy the outdoors. My family goes to the lake every weekend. (mask-free)

13. I think staying out too long may affect my reputation as a reliable
>> useful employee.
>>

Stay in constant contact with your manager. Make certain they are being
very candid with you. Express your concerns.

Like I said, kinda complicated. What things would you be looking at?

Good question. I would look into what precautions your company is taking at
the office. Are employees required to wear masks? I would get all the facts
before making a decision.

I know that COVID was a topic before but it's been a while and things are
changing all the time. I'm C5 complete and am trying to decide if I should
go back to the office (day job). I was wondering, for people who went back
or have decided to continue to stay out: what did you consider before
making your decision?
