Title: Daily meds/ American Wayy

Well Kemal if you didnt know we Americans have 2 support these multi-billion drug companies. Its the American way. :) thats what keeps our drug prices so hi. Some Americans have 2 go 2 Canada 2 purchase drugs manufactured here in America but are a fraction of the cost in another country. Dr.s do prescribe medicines at times because certain drug manufacturers give them incentives. My sister-in-law is a pharmaceutical rep. She goes 2 Dr offices and gives them samples. Every so often she has luncheons and dinner parties for the Dr.s at expensive restaurants paid for by the drug manufacturer. Which in turn they ad into the cost of their products. Its the American way.

I am a regular reader on this list . Every time I see people talking about the drugs they take but they do not talk about the side effects. It appears that these people (majority are Americans, I suspect) are taking too much drugs and the doctors prescribe it as requested, may be because it is easily or freely available.Eventhough I have no idea about other places, I know myself that I am taking only bisacodyl every two days for my BP. Otherwise I am not taking any other medicinefor the last five years and I am ok! I do my exercises regular and take my regular diet and keep myself busy ...
I remember when I was in the hospital they used to give me all sorts of drugs--- for spastisity, bowel, infection , blood thinning etc--- to build up their bill. But not know and no problem.
It is better to live our body try to heal itself as much as possible and make the drugs a last resort.

1st question. How many meds do you take daily? What meds and what for?
I moved to St. Louis found out that Medicaid is different here than Indiana.
I've been taking same meds since Rehab Hospital. Which I knew were more than
most other quads I knew but never questioned because I knew each person was
different. But now I need to reassess my meds. The Dr. I've gone to here
doesn't now much about quads as I'd expect. My last Dr. I was her 1st quad
patient.
Anyway I've been taking axid daily since Aug. 98. Since I've been in St.
Louis I ran out a few weeks back. Medicaid here guess doesn't fully cover it
the pharmacy told me that I'd have to pay $54.00 for script. I decided it
wasn't an option I've not taken it in weeks have not noticed any difference.
A few yrs back I stopped taking the anti depressants after I finally got out
of my system I've been fine. A bout of depression here and there but I'd
have them even without being quad. :)
Here's the other meds I'm taking.
Gabapentin 300mg 3 times daily
Oxybutynin 5mg 3 times daily
Effexor 37.5mg 1 time daily
Fludrocortisone 1 time daily
Tizanidine 4mg 1 in morn. 2 evening
Fexofenadine 180mg 1 time daily
Ducosate sod cap 100mg I take 1 every evening supposed to take 2 a day
Vitamin C 1 a day
Multi Vitamin 1 a day

Can I probably cut back or stop some of these at this point. Almost 8yrs

And remember, they are allowed to advertise.  Another way to get someone to ASK for the drug.  I am thinking about asking for Requip for restless leg syndrome.  If I hadn't seen it on tv, I wouldn't know to ask for it.The bruises on my legs are horrible.  Wake myself up kicking myself.  OUCH!KKOn Apr 28, 2006, at 8:29 AM, Houston809 wrote: Well Kemal if you didn’t know we Americans have 2 support these multi-billion drug companies.
