Sorry this took so long Tim, but multiple things that kept me off the
Internet for the last week and a half.
I had my first colonoscopy when I was 32 years old and ironically I would
have never had one if I hadn't been paralyzed when I was 30. The ironic
part is they found one polyp which was pre-cancerous and the chances are I
wouldn't have made it past my mid-40s if I didn't have the early
colonoscopy. I guess it's one benefit to being paralyzed, but I haven't
found many others. At least not yet.
I have had numerous colonoscopies over the last several years and it seems
like the majority of them go off without too much difficulty. Down here in
Tampa the protocol or spinal cord injured patients is to start a liquid diet
on Wednesday evening and to be admitted to the hospital on Friday. Friday
evening starts off with Mag- citrate (spelling). In my experience this is
the worst part of the whole thing. On Saturday we are required to drink 1
gallon of Golightly (spelling). Thankfully by this point they are usually
able to affix a fecal matter bag to my rectum, so this isn't as bad as it
sounds. However, this last time it wasn't that easy. Oh well, I digress.
On Sunday they provide us with one more additional gallon of Golightly.
Wednesday morning we get a few enemas and then usually go into the procedure
by noon.
Hopefully this gives you an idea of what it's like. However, there is no
experience like actually going through it. :-)

I have had left side colon pain for ten years or so. My doctor has told
me it is irritable bowel syndrome and that he doesn't want to put me through
the colonoscopy (because of symptoms and my age etc.). So how bad was it-
hours on the commode, accidents, the procedure etc.? And what was your
reason for the colonoscopy?

Subject: [QUAD-L] Forgot to mention I'm back
I completely forgot to mention that I made it through my colonoscopy and
caregiver respite unscathed. I ended up getting out a few days early, but
it has been so hectic at home I haven't had a chance to get on here until
today.
I trust that not too much wind on while I was sequestered from
everything. :-)
