"i" had kids when i was 28, 30, and 33, back in the days when REAL daddies
used cloth diapers with pins.   they all seemed to know they had to
lie still for me because they all did - and for me only.  we did all 3 kids
on the same 50 or 60 diapers..  my grand daughter (who is the coolest 3
yr old on the planet) went thru about 5 x 365 x 2 = 3650( conservatively
speaking) paper diapers at a cost of around a grand - [wow - that's depressing]
- then the bottles and baby food.. now tacos and chicken
nuggets... when will it stop?    2 more coming,  i can
hardly wait.

Daanoo,

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in for what its worth.  I too met my husband online.  We just celebrated our 3 rd anniversary April 26.   I have to agree with Lori, it is the modern day equivalent of pen-pals back in the 40's. My husband chatted online via chat rooms and IM and emails for nearly year before we even decided to exchange phone numbers.

[QUAD-L] Love, music, stories and love again

2006-06-26 Thread Lori Michaelson

Hey DAANOO ...

I don't know but I am guessing that I would probably be ignorant about newsgroups and MP3 files and MP3 players as well IF it were not for my husband.  When I first got on the Internet [1995]... I had, of course, heard of newsgroups and looked at them but I had no idea and no desire at that time to look into them.

We first began collecting MP3 music files 6 years ago when we lived in Virginia.  We were using that "sharing music" medium called NAPSTER which was eventually closed down because of copyright laws.  But it is now up and running again but we do not use it.  I don't think sharing files should be illegal.  It is really no different than sticking a cassette tape into your stereo to tape music/songs off the radio.

And you are definitely right about my husband.  When we were first married I was quite healthy and then everything went downhill with my health since then!  We have been to hell and back so many times yet he has stuck by me like a saint and has sacrificed more than most able-bodied men on earth will EVER have to sacrifice!  The list is endless.  But I consider myself so fortunate to find a person with all the character qualities that he has!  I THINK [I am not certain] that my EX realized that the going was getting tougher and that he was reaching midlife [close to 40] and decided he did not think our relationship was for him anymore.  And HE was the one after ME after we first met and then he asked me to marry him.

I'm not so sure I believe in coincidence anymore.  I now a truly think [by a large number of examples] our meeting [talking about my current husband now] was definitely meant to happen.  I had had that 12 year relationship mentioned above whereby I thought we would be together forever.  After that ended, I had no hopes, illusions or any ideas that I would get together with anyone again.

So you never know what life is going to throw at you!  The funny thing is ... in NEITHER of my relationships was I looking for someone.  They just happened!  And sometimes that may be very well the best sign that it was meant to happen.

Yes, caution is always a necessity when using the Internet because it is a huge opportunity for anonymity.  We did not meet on a "dating site" however.  We just happened to be in one of those chat rooms for ages 30 plus.  I was just having a whole bunch of fun chatting in a room with anywhere from 10 to 30 people [about 15 regulars] and we just talked about all kinds of things.  It was addicting at the time.  It was not actually a site --- but rather it was a downloadable thingy called mIRC that had thousands of different topical rooms.  You could even create your own room.  I am sure that it is still as active as it ever was but that is not in interest of mine anymore.  If you think you are interested in benign chatting that could lead to flirting with women mIRC is a great program to do just that.  Just do a search on "mIRC" and download it for free.  It may take you a little while to get the hang of it ... but, like anything, you learn by using it.

My husband and I recently met a couple [ages 61 and 65] that just a met on the Internet three years ago.  It was a church site so that they had that in common [same beliefs].  We met them about five months ago and are now very good friends with them!  They are a wonderful couple!

They advertise that e-Harmony web site enough!  I wonder what the success rate of that is?  And it probably has a fee.

But there have been so many successful relationships come from the Internet anymore.  It is actually a modern-day form of how people in old times used to date overseas by snail mail letters.  Especially during the wars.

Anyway, there is also a 50% [or more] divorce rate in this country as everyone knows.  I think if people would just accept their individual roles as husband and wife and learn to be less selfish ... Things would turn around.  Did you ever wonder why marriages and families were so strong just 50 years ago and all those years beyond that?  It is of my opinion that men and women recognized their individual roles, accepted them, kept in mind to always act selfless rather than selfish.

We are living in the ME, ME, ME generations and look what it has done regarding the breakdown of marriage, family and values.  Even though I am female ... I actually blame a lot of it on many women today.  They want their husbands to be more than they can be or were born to be.  Some even have such a self deluded need for individuality that they forget that a marriage is a UNION.

OK, stepping off my soapbox.  But I think many men here can attest to the foundation of what I am trying to say.

Lori  :-)
