Id probably forget it was plugged and send myself into some kind of renal 
failure. Glad I just use condom catheters.I would have thought they would 
have invented an implant computer chip that monitors your bladder and sends a 
mild shock to it at appropriate times to urinate..

Interesting concept, Dan. While you are visiting the web, try 
out
urocycler and Dr. Tom. The UroCycler, does the very same thing
using ceramic magnets.

Danny,

I change bags/catheters once a month, but switch 
between leg and bed bags daily and so my aides clean both once a day. As to 
plugging catheter to allow bladder to fill, I've heard of it but never done it. 
I can barely take being irrigated much less being plugged up, I wet myself more 
easily than I did before the SP but I figure it might just be a factor of age 
and being female, dunno.

I clean leg/bed bags with vinegar and water every time I switch from one 
to the other.  I never plug catheter.

Yes KK, live with constant infection problems. I found that cleaning with alcohol the connectors from the bag to the  
catheter.  That has stopped most infections.  Except now I have a  
drug resistant pseudomonas viral infection.  Been on a week of Cipro  
then another week of Levaquin.  Fever is gone since Levaquin.

I have an SP also, for six years, and I change my catheter once a month and 
my leg bag twice a month. Medi-Cal used to pay (provide) 4 leg bags a 
month, but cut back to 2 a month a few years ago. So I can only change it 
twice a month. If the bag starts to get smelly, I will have it bleached 
out, but I do not clean it out other than that. I also don't plug the 
catheter either. It makes sense, but my urologist has never told me to do 
this.
