Thank you all for your answers, I know it won't be a picnic, but the prep,
surgery and hospitalization scare me. I also have a pee bag!

I have the surgery performed in late May. The recovery was next to nothing. I
didn't have any problems with pain or anything like that.

I had difficulty with my bowels transitioning to the colostomy. My body kept
wanting to put out a large amount every 48 hours because I had been doing that
for 20 years. We ended up going to bowel irrigation (similar to an enema
through the colostomy stoma). We do this every two days and it really helps
with my bowels. Don't have too many problems with stoll coming out at odd
times.
Wish I had done it earlier.

Please, those of you who have colostomy's. I need some answers. I have had it!
My aide didn't show up AGAIN so of course gotta find a new person. I can't take
one more day training and hoping to keep someone for BM mornings. Not to
mention how they rule my schedule. Could I please get some info about how
severe is the surgery, recovery, problems that I may encounter such as
infections etc. I am truly afraid od of surgery but I need to do something!!

I don’t remember the surgery or recovery but I’ve had mine about 10 years now
and I get sores under my wafer sometimes.
