Re: FW: Re: [QUAD-L] Mine and urine
I used "anti-twist" condom catheters and believe me they do twist if not checked after being placed in the wheelchair. Jim

Jim Do you loop the drain line before you tape it to your leg to prevent the cath from pinching? Have you considered, trying the Urocycler? W
Re: FW: Re: [QUAD-L] Mine and urine
Basically, yes. I have the catheter tube longer and run in such away to where it does not get pinched while up in my wheelchair. My problem is at night. When I spasm I move sometimes, which causes the catheter to get pinched and this seems to be worse when the catheter tube is "looped" compared to when it is just straight. Overall, I have good luck with condom catheters as long as my caregivers take care putting them on properly. Jim

Silas, I don't use a condom cath at all anymore because my bladder will not void at all. When I did I used whatever was cheapest and made sure it had the anti-twist bulb at the end. I always added some extra adhesive as well, Skin-bond. I could never get them to stick without it. It is almost impossible to re-use a condom cath. Gets pricey, I know. Take care. A few leaks and a rare uti. about five years ago my output began to dwindle, my abdomen ached, and I felt like hell warmed over. I went through 5 hospital stays to kill rare and vicious creatures in my bladder. High fever, hallucinations, multiple misery. Through trial and error, we established a routine of cath twice a day using a new cath each time. Re-use led to re-infection every time. I still have bouts of abdominal pain, but infections are rare. I still don't know why my bladder decided to die.

Some generic caths are just a condom with a short plastic tube attached. Quality caths are molded one-piece and have a little bulb (balloon?) between the penis and the drain bag. The generics are the ones that twist. Course they all twist to some degree. From: A.B.C.
