Is there anything I can do to not have him get any sores from lying down so much besides regular turning? Thank you so much for your help. He also has a UTI on top of it.

I don't know anything about your boyfriend's break but being that close to the knee, maybe healing improperly would limit the joint's range of motion. Just guessing why they are recommending surgical repair.
