Ok, here is how you do it in california. You have lawyer set up a trust that's
sole job is to take care of your stuff. Your stuff belongs to the trust, house,
bank accounts, Cars, everything. This trust takes care of yuor bills. You name
yourself as the CEO.(this is where you pay your bills.) Pay yourself the legal
Amount you can make. Now you  own nothing.
It is a bit schizophrenic, but now you can get state help. Ask a lawyer in
California first. You might want to keep your SSDI coming in your name (Ha).

IHSS is a Calif. thing and also is for low income under 2000.00 in assets. But
I live in my own home, have a van I drive, and a house full of stuff. Just
don't have more than 2 grand in the bank. It's silly how low of assets they
expect people to have. Heck a kitchen worth of stuff like stove, fridge,
washer, table, and utincles is 2 grand these days.

I too was looking for a live-in caregiver and actually he starts today. Here
in Calif. we can get IHSS (In Home Supportive Services) and it pays the
caregiver 9.00 per hour plus Medical-Dental Insurance. This caregiver works 25
hours a week doing care and house cleaning. I have 2 caregivers. I also give
him free room, free utilities, free cable, and free wi-fi connection. He gets
around 800.00 a month after taxes. The new caregiver is a medical student plus
works pt at a restaurant. So that's the low down here. Every case is different
due to disability, living arrangement, and location.

I live in New Hampshire and to qualify for Medicaid you are allowed
to own a house and a car and still qualify for Medicaid. A couple of
years ago I tried renting the upstairs to college students. The rent
was $50 a month. However, I had no takers. I live 10 miles from
campus. They all said that was too far as they like to party and
don't want to have to drive home. Go figure?

That won't cut it in Ohio. I think it depends on cost of living and just how
much the job entails. If a live in garegiver is going to get respite, they
will burn out like a young wife with no kids. Joking.. sorry. I have one IP
that has 5 clients and makes around 1400.00 a week. (I do taxes as a hobby)
Room and expenses may sound like a great deal but if your target is a person
with some history, you may need to double or triple that. Have you thought
about sharing your home with nursing students? I don't know your situation
to any detail so I can't really help. $500 plus Room and use of rest of the
house is = to a cheap high school student. I have a friend on here that pays
$5,000 a month for a live-in that rolls him every two hours. The guy is
seriously rich.

Best of luck,

All different kind of hours -- they just work it out between themselves. No,
they can I have another job, unless it's a work-at-home type of job that
doesn't demand much time.

I don't think there is an over doing it.

It all depends on how much work they do and how long you want them to last.
It's not a job real motivated people look into. So the more you pay the
better quality of work ethic you get.
