RE: [QUAD-L] Heat Lamp?

2015-10-08 Thread Joan Anglin
I use a radiant space heater from Harbor Freight. It has heat settings of
400 W and 800 watts, and cost $30.00. I have had this one for three years
and it really helps with the visual feeling of warmth. Have a great day.

The SAD lamps are great for depression or just giving your brain and eyes
much needed light during the winter. My Mom uses one and it helps her out a
lot.
But there is no heat. You'll Ned a small space heater. Bobbie

Anything over 85 and I'm inside too. I can only take so much ac so I go
out to thaw and back in to cool. I do this because I'm in all winter so I
want to be outside as much as possible.

Have you tried warm tea on those hot days to release some of the heat? I
personally love a bowl of chili on hot days like the past week.
Best Wishes

Re: [QUAD-L] heat lamps

2008-10-10 Thread John S.
Dear Mike's sister, please do not use a heat lamp on a wound. The dangers far
outweigh the advantages. It has to be watched all the time if it is used.
To help the wound dry, take an 8 inch plastic fan from k-mart or anyplace, put
cheesecloth around it and set it up under the sheet circulating the same air
and trapping the dust it may churn up.
If you insist on a heat lamp use an adjustable desk lamp and don't use anything
bigger than a 60watt bulb from 18 inches.
If your heating up his room, well, I use one of those cheap oil filled
radiators with a cheap fan blowing air at it. When I have a wound I usually set
the same heater where it is close enough to warm my wound a bit and speed up
any drying processes I might be trying.

Best wishes with whatever you heat,
john

Yes, a heat lamp does work, but as cautioned, keep an eye on it. I use a
75 watt, red, no closer than 30 inches. Years ago I had the lamp on and
the polyester cover laying over a metal bedrail caught fire.

If nothing else works, I will go to the lamp. HOWEVER:

My new treatment methods: Put 1-1.5 inches of water in a 6 dia. glass
bowl, place a tea bag and nuke for 1 minute. Use after the tea is cool, I
keep rotating
tea mixtures, making a fresh each day, storing it in the microwave instead
of fridge. I wash the area with saline then put tea on the area after
saline dries,
put a fan on the area for 5-8 minutes. put neosporin or musoporin on the
area,
then Zenaderm (expensive but available in generic)
then Bagbalm over everything. Sounds complicated but in my 42 years post
sci, it
is the best treatment I found.

You may be thinking tea yeah right, exactly my thoughts, but I'm sold. The
tea,
according to the wound specialist, is supposed to change the ph around the
wound and it does.

Good luck,

GA

Rather than a lamp, you might consider a *radiant* heater like the one I got
from Lowes, like this:
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetailproductId=259115-79995-HQH308C-UMlpage=none

Very nice on low level, and only 600 watts (i.e. the same electric cost of 10
60-watt incandescent lightbulbs).

I got mine at a PetCo but then again, it *is* for my iguana! Sorry.

(BTW: IF you ever *do* think of trying those, think twice! Lots of UVA. I got
a sunburn on my arm from petting Iggy too long.)
