Any AUX happy people around?
Hey Everyone, So about three weeks ago I gave A/UX a go. Three cdroms and two hard drives later I managed to get it installed. However when trying to update to (3.1?) the installer would fail. I managed to get the 3.02 update to shoehorn in after several tries. Anyway I had the following problems in no particular order: * System locks up when a 9.1 client tries to mount a shared volume. * Tried to untar gcc for use caused it to die. Its like it runs out of file handles? (guessing) Any ideas? Any suggestions? Thanks Tyler. -- Quadlist is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Klez Worm
Judging from the message lines, I'm going to shoot from the hip, which I often do anyway. Not long after I installed Windows 98 on a separate partition of my big hard drive on my main computer, I started getting weirdness and loss of files not too much unlike what I experienced back in the days of the AutoStart worm in 1998. At first, I was in total denial and disbelief that a Wintel virus/worm/whatever could hurt us Mac users. In many ways I still am. I now don't know what to think. I privately believe the Klez virus/worm CAN affect Macs. If I'm mistaken, I hope someone will disabuse me of my notion that there are cross-platform diseases. It took me a few minutes to rid myself and my system of AutoStart. It took three WEEKS to get rid of the Klez symptoms. I'm on other mailing lists that are badly infected with Klez; they can't seem to eradicate it. Am I mistaken, or does this thing actually have the ability to infect and/or damage Mac systems??? I had to do the install twice (maybe more, it's been a while). But it does run, and it ain't that shaggy. The only apps she runs are Netscape 4.76 and Office 98 (Word). The machine definitely has some kind of PPC upgrade. Even if you did manage to hack 8.5 to somehow run on it, Word98 and NS 4.76 won't run. Especially Word 98. Go to the Apple Menu and load up the Apple System Profiler. I can guarantee you it'll report something other than a 840AV. Scott Holder -- Quadlist is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Anything over 8.1 requires a PPC processor of some sort. Period. Terry In a previous post, I erroneously said that my wife's Q840-AV was running OS 8.6. Cant and wont. It took me a few minutes to rid myself and my system of AutoStart. It took three WEEKS to get rid of the Klez symptoms. What are Klez symptoms. Klez needs to be handled properly before it reaches you. I'm on other mailing lists that are badly infected with Klez; they can't seem to eradicate it. Why? most virus checkers spot infection, with differing success of removing the virus, corporate versions like the one my isp run remove the threat before I see it. They were slow on the up take thou. At home Norton's scans everything on port 110 no matter what machine its sent from or received by Am I mistaken, or does this thing actually have the ability to infect and/or damage Mac systems??? Your mistaken as usual and how about a screen shot of this 68k running 8.5 without problems or mods. I know you've only been asked half a dozen times in the last month. Do you have a quadra that runs a os made for a 68k machine? -- Quadlist is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: Toast for 680x0
Craig O'Donnell [EMAIL PROTECTED]: I've got that AWS 95 running, and I have an old SCSI CD burner to connect to it, but no version of Toast which works on non-PPC machines. [...] Any leads from anyone who might have an obsolete copy? I recently bought Toast 3.5.6 from a neighbor on the SwapList, applied the free upgrade to version 3.5.7, and it now works fine on a Q660av. How would you like your copy of Toast done?
