Jim

It may be something as simple as the CD is machine specific. If this is
not the case then I do remember a similiar problem I had booting a IIci
with a 40MHz 040 and OS8.1 on but what the exact problem was or how I got
around it eludes me for the moment.

Try www.everymac.com for the complete specs on the machines.

Try www.crucial.com for the memory specs also. They have a memory caculator
on their web site.

Try www.nexcomp.com/memory.html for memory specs also.

Search around for the best price though. For example on my Centris/610 I
found the range between $9.95 and $54.00 depending on the company.

And go to RAMseeker.com for price comparison, and PCI-powermacs for any
further
questions on these Macs, because it's WAY OT for this list.

Thanks for the pointers.

I know it's off topic here, sorry about that. It's not my system so I don't
expect it to be a regular thing, but if other things do come up I'll check
out another group. Meanwhile, I just hoped for a quick reliable answer
without
having to go thru subscribing to another list just for a question or 2.

thanks, jim

A few times a year the AppleScript that extracts singles messages from a
digest grabs the digest's address instead of the original sender's.

Apologies to the list. Would love to never have to send another one of

Just drag and drop on the extraction (musta left some bones behind). Don't
have an external hooked up at the moment.

What would be ideal, to me anyway, is if someone would port Links to
68K mac. It's a text browser, but it supports tables, frames, and a lot of
other features normally only in graphics browsers. It's also still actively
developed.

I assume the method used to port Lynx would work.

Are you *kidding* me? It's a lot faster than anything else I've used...turn
off multiple connections and kill the cache if you're on broadband. And yeah,
get more RAM; any browser is going to be slow on that system.

Are *you* kidding *me*?

I always have thought iCab was a dog. It has a lot of nice features, but on
the 68k machine I have (50MHz Daystar PowerCache, 128MB RAM, IIci) it's almost
too slow to use.

I use multiple connections, with at least one reserved for the browser,
and I disable cache. I am using a modem, but through a UNIX gateway with
a few gigs of squid cache. No use in a local cache when squid is around.

Try Netscape Defrost, but I don't have much hope because Netscape 2 generally
 sucks.

It does suck... but it's fast. The worst exception is when it is waiting on
the remote server. It tends to freeze up the Mac, even with the Defrost
extension installed.
