back on topic - 610 RAM

2002-12-19 Thread J Sand

On my 610, will 2x16 be enough RAM, or should I go ahead and invest in 2x32
RAM sticks. The machine is mostly going to be used for surfing by 56k modem
and some word processing functions.

If the extra RAM will make it able to do image manipulations, even slowly
compared to today's standards, it would be worth it for me.

Thanks,

John

As most who subscribe to the list are adults, I try not to interfere too
much with the day to day running of the List. In this area I agree with
the List Mom - these are his ideals.

When the posturing gets to flaming etc, I merely suggested that it be
taken off list as it has no place for general reading. We have over 400+
subscribers to the list so if you want to look like a XX (insert
appropriate word here) person in front of them then please flame someone
on the list BUT and I mean a big BUT, expect to suffer the consequences,
that is suspension and or banning.

>Please correct for grammer, content and netiquette and reply to:
I don't do this as my own grammer spelling etc is not that great.

Hope this is of some help.

I have been with this particular list two to three weeks after it started
in November 1997 and even now still find it a valueable resource. Think
of it in terms of mining - sometimes you have to move a lot of s*it to
get to the gems.

Due to the fact that nothing on this list seems to be O.T. at this
point, I thought I'd just ignore the the policy of writing directly

I have a suggestion.I think we should start a new list. We could call
it "The NO MORE WARNING, NETIQUETTE and GRAMMER list. That way no one
would have to put a stop to or cease all their supurlative B.S.

As a side effect, anyone who wanted to read or write about "Quads"
could do so undestracted.

Please correct for grammer, content and netiquette and reply to:

Top post time again? I thought that topic had been finalized by the list
nanny already. I guess not. Convenience should not take over the the set
upon agreements of protocol because one person thinks so. As to the grammar
lesson, it is a lesson worth learning if it helps me to learn how to
communicate better.

Misspellings of a word, or out of context, can convey the wrong thought
other than intended when read by another.

Sew is it write knot two spend the thyme too review watt is sent too another
four clarity?

So is it right not to spend the time to review what is sent to another for
clarity?

This is not meant as an attack on anyone, just a desire for clearer
communication between us all.

Re: ATTO SE II vs. ATTO SE IV

2002-12-19 Thread Nathes
I guess it might depend on what version of the Avid software you are
running, as the software expects to see certain things before it'll load. With
Media Composer v5 on the Q950 the IV was used (that's what I've got),
and depending on what resolutions you are using (ie up to AVR3) you could
use the Q950s built in SCSI port.

good place to start.

And if you have time to browse a bit give a visit to both "Resources for
the Older Macintosh" at and
"Resources for Specific Macintosh Computers" at
.

When you have a more specific question/problem then There are several
PowerMac email newsletters where you can get help. There is a very nice
selection of these at .

As a subscriber (it's free) you can post (e-mail) your question(s) to the
group and you'll get back lots of answers from people much more "expert"
than I am. Be as specific as possible in your question giving them the
computer type, operating system version, harddrive size, amount of RAM,
name and version of any application(s) causing problems, etc. etc. In other
words, whatever you think might help the experts trouble-shoot your problem.

Luck in your Mac "education"...

Um... thats a no-no :) Such a shame to throw a tantrum like that, ya
feel like a tosser later on.

I get Keith Johnson [EMAIL PROTECTED] of Illinois as a match, you might
check for yourself and add to filters as you see fit and I do suggest
not taking my word for it.

Anyone in Oz got a spare Q800 (there abouts) case I can drop this Q800
board into, I've found it very hard to bring myself to swapping the 700
board out of its ugly box, this particular box must have spent life in
direct sunlight in a mechanics garage full of smokers. The Q950 wasn't
working so I passed on the shipping. To my great shame a 840 was sold
for $26 usd and I didn't wake up in time to snipe the auction. :( Lucky
bugger, last one sold for $270 AUD picked up by a list member so I guess
it got a good home.

Anyway I'd like to get 2 quads to play warcraft. You up for a tcp game
Eric? :)

Xmas soon, end of the year, tensions run high. Good thing 3D ultra
pinball runs.

You might try the FAQ, http://macfaq.org/
Gamba's http://home.earthlink.net/~gamba2
My favorite Marten's http://www.euronet.nl/users/mvdk/system_6_heaven.html
Mark's Flatpack's http://fpm.gotdns.com

They will all have link pages for different stuff and are 68k friendly
sites to surf, I think.
Heaps more out there, have fun.

Trying to drag back on topic Re: NO MORE "WARNING!" Messages

2002-12-19 Thread E McCann
Um... looks like someone tried to take this offlist... and it got dragged
back on.

Might I suggest that everyone start updating emailing filters so this
flame-fest can fade away already?

In the meantime... down to two Q840AVs and the trusty 800. No idea why the
third has flaked out... it's currently living in storage anyway... but the
700s still work! (There's just something about those 700s and they run
Warcraft so well.)
