I was always under the impression that monitors had specific signals they could
sync to, rather that anything within certain limits.

Is that wrong?

As far as I can recall I used 832x624 on an HP, a Sony, several
ViewSonics and an Impression.

Most of the specs I've seen for these monitors show them as being
able to sync to a wide range of signals, within limits. That is they
aren't per say 800x600 or 1024x768. 832x624 is just another signal

I am using a ViewSonic E655 (15") with a Mac to VGA adapter and it is
running at 832x624 at 75HZ.

How it works

2003-02-22 Thread Grin With Me
Recently, Dan Knight wrote:

End quote.

So the game gets played Pickle’s way or he takes his

blackmail or extortion. But it is finally a clear
indication of why the nannies can’t control his
abusive behavior. And why Dan has washed his hands of
any responsibility for Pickle’s insistence on being
abusive and on hawking the FAQ when this community
relies on the exchange of information, even redundant
and trivial information.

Let him take his badly written columns and go. No one
should hold this community – or LEM – hostage. It is
an outrage that he would even make the threat, let
alone follow through. LEM is the power source. Pickle
is the parasite. If he removes his work then his ego
suffers. Call his bluff. No one in the Mac community
will ever forgive him for such a childish act. He’ll
be a pariah.

This is my last message. I had hoped for some future
where these lists weren’t dominated by a single ego
with a pathological need to answer every question.
Where newbies were tutored instead of being abused.
Where information was given and not held hostage.

But that was before I realized that Pickle was
victimizing you. There’s nothing anyone can do for you
Dan. You have to do it yourself this time. I guess
your recent defense of him can now be seen in a
clearer light.

Yep, there are a few Sony monitors that were made for Macs as well. The
overwhelming majority, though, are VGA-based multiscans that don't do the odd
Mac resolutions.

There's a link in the FAQ to video output specs for all Macs; see what that
says, but I think it'll do SVGA just fine.

H, my Sony GDM-17SE1 with the Belkin adapter does 832x624 w/o problems.
So does my Sony CPD-1304S... On both my C650, and my 7100/80...

Well, I'm not familiar with this database, but I shall google and see
what comes up.

Thanks for the lead.

Also, Am I correct in thinking that this (Q605) won't display 800 x 600?
I seem to remember reading that it won't either on LEM or Applespec.

Thanks again,

I suspect just about any multi-scan would work. You could even run most
VGA monitors with an adapter.

Q605 should be here Monday

2003-02-22 Thread Jason White
I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas here; I've been very eager to see
what kind of things I could do with this Quadra 605 I recently got.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any monitors that would do the 832 x
624 this machine can produce (with the extra VRAM). If I could get a few
model numbers jotted down, it would give me something else to look for at
the thrift stores.

Actually, the purpose of this post is to check to see if the Quadlist is
still up. I haven't heard a peep from anyone all day :)
