7.5 compatible, that records better?

Bernhard Jenny's SoundRecorder is freeware that works very nicely. Email
me if you'd like me to send it to you as a 110KB attachment.

Felt Tip Software's Quick Recorder
 is inexpensive shareware.

Sam Burrish <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

I assume you're going through the built-in mic port, as
the Quad 66AV doesn't have RCA audio in. IIRC, you're
going to be limited to 8 bits from that port. It's the
hardware, not the software. So with that Mac, you're
going to be limited, no matter what software package
you're using.

Not true! AV Quads are all about 16-bit/44.1 KHz audio. See

You're right, it is 16. Sorry about that. On my 8600 I use a nifty freeware
app called Coaster. You can select the input, bit rate, and gain. There is
also a nice auto-gain option for if you're transferring LPs or cassettes.

What to do w/ Quadra 950

2003-07-16 Thread T. Hackett
Hi list,
I just subscribed in order to get ideas about what if any use I
might have for a pair of Quadra 950's someone gave me today...I
tinker w/ Macs as a hobby, and when a customer asked me if I wanted a
couple free Macs I said "Sure!" I couldn't believe how big 'n' heavy
they are!
Both machines are in some disarray; I know they're not running at
this point. The RAM slots had some chips in 'em, and I got a box
along w/ the Quadras of various RAM chips, cards, nuts "n" bolts...
I'm sure that from these two dead computers I can assemble one
working machine...but it's kinda big and klunky to donate. I don't
have a network built yet, so I can't use it for a server. I might use
it for an MP3 jukebox; certainly got enough room for big hard
drive(s).
Just want to know: there are two RCA-type-looking jacks in the back,
each has a symbol above it of a circle and an arrow, suggesting "in"
and "out", maybe? What are these for? If they're not audio-out, is
there any type of card I can install w/ these type connectors?

Thanks

You've got an AAUI connector on the back. You need to buy a dongle that will
turn that into ethernet. Try the LEM swaplist or eBay. They're pretty cheap
now.

Hmmm. From the "Take apart" manual:

Ethernet Centris 610: Optional on-board Ethernet port
  AWS 60/Quadra 610: On-board Ethernet

Doesn't it have the AAUI port? Built-in 10baseT ethernet. Just need a
"dongle" to connect it to ethernet. Routers are cheap (less than

Hi, Y'all,

I had planned to upgrade the HD in a 950 to 3 gig. When I opened the
case to look around, I see something I have never seen before. A big
THING incased in a metal holder, case, whatchimacallit. It has Seagate
ST41600N Serial Number SF522971 written on the end that I can see. It
looks like no hard drive I have ever seen. I did a Google on it and the
search came back with references to Sparc and Sun Systems. This was once
a system server for a Josten's Learning Lab.

Does anyone know what I have here? Can I remove it and replace it with a
standard SCSI HD, if I can figure out how?

It depends what you're trying to do. Are you trying to share an internet
connection, files, printer, etc?

Ethernet would seem like an easier, and much faster way to go.

You should be able to pop off the key with a flat screwdriver quite easily.
Sometimes junk can work its way under there and keep the key from moving
down, or make it stick. After you get the key off, a qtip dampened with
rubbing alcohol will remove any caked on crud.

Thanks I went there and yeah it has old games from what I can see, but that
is good as I downloaded several.

So anyone have some documentation on the Might and Magic II and Might and
Might and Magic III games? How about Curse of the Azure Bonds and Pools of
Darkness?

Re: Quadro 950/Avid

2003-07-16 Thread Nathes
There was a Power version of the Avid software - so you'd probably need to get hold of
the standard software from someone who still has it - or a Power card. After that the
only thing that is needed is a software key on the hard-drive - this specifically
relates to
the serial number of the NuVista+ card (which runs the two monitors) - and should
hopefully still be on the system. It is possible to get new software keys made - but
not
from Avid who withdrew it under the cloak of Y2K.

Suggestions Please.
