Re: CD ROM Question

2003-02-01 Thread Jack Gallemore
It should be on one of your System CDs, in the System Folder. I found mine on a System
8.1 CD. I'm not sure if it is available from Apple to download (unless the 7.5.3 disk
has it). Additionally, you might be able to find it with Google.

Re: CD ROM Question

2003-02-01 Thread Jack Gallemore
Byron,
I've had a similar problem on a different platform with a Sony CDU-76. I could only
mount a CD after I had booted the system with the System CD. What fixed it for me was
adding the Apple CD-ROM 5.4.3 (unsure of the version) extension ***in addition to***
the standard Apple CDROM/DVD extension.

Re: DOS Card

2003-01-22 Thread Jack Gallemore
Actually, it is the way NT allows access to the system peripherals. NT
is supposed to simulate what called "protective mode" operations. If
an app fails, theoretically, the OS won't crash (but it still does).
In running this way, NT drivers were VERY specific and kludgy. That's
why very few games came out for NT. Call by the game to the sound
card, CD, hard drive, etc., were protected by the OS.

My bet is that 98 will work since it is just an "improvement" over
95and I bet that ME would run if you had a 586 with 64MB of RAM
(I'm guessing here), since ME is an "improved" 98.

Re: 840av

2003-01-19 Thread Jack Gallemore
Additionally, she was using a piece of equipment that I have used on a
newer machine with the same results that she was experiencing. I
didn't realize this list was limited to only experiences on Quadras,
but rather to help people who are having problems with Quadras. I've
been in the computing industry since the early '80s and have racked up
a lot of time with personal computing. I've found that in
troubleshooting a problem, I ask myself "Have I dealt with this
before?". In eliminating possible suspects, I usually like to see if a
similar problem has occurred regardless of platform or OS.

Now that I know that this list is only limited to a discussion of only
"experiences with Quadras need apply", I'll happily go into lurk mode.

Re: 840av

2003-01-19 Thread Jack Gallemore
Victoria,

As I stated earlier, I never had any luck with the VBII. I'm using a
Flat Panel Mac with 768MB of RAM and it, too rendered my Mac useless
and at times completely froze up while trying both 9.2.2 and 10.1. I
recommend saving up for a firewire solution, but as far as software is
concerned, I can't help there. I use iMovie which works fine for me.

I had a Belkin USB VideoBusII as referenced in the original message.
Formac Studio is located at http://www.formac.com

sync. Froze my 9.2.2 and OSX. Just all around unhappy with it.
Shipped it back and bought a Formac Studio using firewire. Much, much
happier and my hair is growing back. USB for video/audio=bad...IMHO.
