Re: FTP Server

2003-03-21 Thread Jeff L.
I could switch to a unix distro of some sort, but downtime has become an
issue. I guess I could switch the server over to my other system, but that
would be too much trouble I think.

Is there an older freeware version of NetPresenz? The price for their most
recent version is $70!

FTP Server

2003-03-20 Thread Jeff L.
I am looking for a free or open source FTP server that supports uploads and
user accounts for 68k Macs. I setup my Quadra 650 as a server and it is
going strong for DNS and HTTP, but I really need FTP to make things easier.

Thanks in advance,

JeffL

Re: 68k CD Burning

2003-01-28 Thread Jeff L.
I recently read an article on this over at lowendmac about this.

Basically it states you will need at least 32MBs of RAM for a RAM cache in
order to burn safely.

See article here: http://www.lowendmac.com/tech/burning_cds.shtml

Re: 8.1 boot floppy - how?

2003-01-27 Thread Jeff L.
I think I can answer this... Disk tools (PPC) disk will boot any system
supporting OS 8.1. Remove the two programs on the disk and install the CD
Extension into the system folder on the disk.

Can download this as an image at apples site, here:
http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/Eng
lish-North_American/Macintosh/System/Mac_OS_8.1_Update/Disk_Tools_PPC.img.bi
n

You can make a disk using Disk Copy from the image linked above.

Hope that helps, JeffL

Agreed, I have no idea how complicated porting is, but I'm looking. Need to
find a compiler and get the source and start hacking...

Re: Chat Software

2003-01-19 Thread Jeff L.
Nice, this is EXACTLY what I am talking about. Currently I run ICQ and
AIM's native clients. Together they use 7 Megs of RAM. Still looking for
some way (Java maybe?) to run Yahoo, but a multiprotocol client is my first
choice, A) because it uses less resources, and B) combines everything into
one list for easy use (like Trillian).

Also, I don't know if anyone is into LiveJournal here, but I'm looking for a
68k Client for that too.

Anyway, this GAIM is good news.

Chat Software

2003-01-19 Thread Jeff L.
Hello all,

I am looking for Yahoo Messenger or alternative that will work on a Mac
Quadra 650, with OS 7.5.5 and Open Transport 1.1.2.

I would also appreciate any sort of multichat tool that combines AIM, Yahoo,
ICQ, and possibly IRC together. This too needs to work /w a 68040 running
OS 7.5.5.

All help appreciated!
