How is it off topic to comment on the rehosting of the group?

who rather wonders if that's the same sort of censorship that the
Chinese have forced Google to do :-)

I *knew* someone was going to ask that! I was vagues simply because I
don't have the 630 with me here at work. I'l have to check when I get
home. Some nasty low res ike 640x480 for thousands of colours and 'one
up' from that with 256 colours.

new monitors with old Macs

2002-10-17 Thread Simon Kershaw

Anyone know if it is possible to run a Performa 630 at higher screen
resolutions and colours?

I run a KVM switch (a Belkin 4 port OmniPort) on my LAN, with a Belkin
Mac adapter for the Performa. Last week I bought myself a new monitor, a
19" Samsung SM 957DF.

I have switched the Performa to its higher screen resolution, but this
only allows me to use 256 colours, rather than 'thousands'. Not
disastrous for most of things I use the box for, except that the TV
('Apple Video') doesn't work at 256 colours.

Is it possible to tweak something so that I can run at high res *and*
thousands of colours? Or is this fixed by the amount of VRAM or something?

(Now if only I could up the resolution displayed by my iBook at X 10.2,
when using the external monitor. Looks like this is an Apple software
lmitation cos there's a s/w hack to do this under OS 9 apparently.
Still, getting off-topic here for quadlist.)

What's the adapter? I have a Belkin adapter which also converts keyboard
and mouse from ADB to PS2. There are a load of DIP switches on one side
and you have to set them correctly for the type of monitor, or else you
get no picture. Had me completely foxed when muy screen went blank and I
realized two days later that the dip switches had accidentally got knocked.

Might this be your problem too?
