Replacement fan for HD case

2002-10-28 Thread Robert J. Johansen
Dear Quadrphiles:

I am looking for a replacement fan for an external hard drive case. The
existing fan is making some vibrating noises indicative that the bearings are
going. Also, I'd like to get a fan that will move more air, as this case has a
Barracuda in it and runs on the hot side.

The existing fan is labeled as follows:

Sunon
KD 1206 PT53
DC 12V
1.2 W

The fan's screw holes are exactly 5cm x 5cm on-center.

Where can I get a replacment for this, and how can I know how much air it will
move vs. the exisitng one?

Thanks,

Fr. Rob Johansen

The fan's screw holes are exactly 5cm x 5cm on-center.

You could look for a 50mm fan at PC overclocker web pages. They usually will
list dimensions, fan speed in RPM, and CFM (cubic feet of air moved per
minute).

They will also usually list the loudness of the fan in dB.

www.svcompucycle.com - is one of my faves
www.plycon.com
www.inflowdirect.com
www.sidewindercomputers.com

Look for links on those sites to other OC pages if you don't find what
you're looking for.

Measure the fan itself but that sounds like a 50mm.

Just about any decent computer parts store or online retailer will have fans in
a multitude of speeds/flow ratings, but to find the flow rating on the original
you'll have to track down the manufacturer's spec sheet for it, which might be
pretty difficult.

You can get pretty close though by using a fan of the same current
rating, the voltage rating already needs to be the same assuming you
are powering it from the same source.
