RE: [Quantum Owners] Re: Xtreme Zetec Turbo
I can't remember why now, but whilst you argument seems logical, it doesn't work out that way, a water rad is smaller than the equivalent air one. It's also much easier to get a nice plumbing route for the air. -Original Message- From: quantumowners@googlegroups.com [mailto:quantumowners@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of nigelp Sent: 02 December 2011 04:32 To: Quantum Owners Group Subject: [Quantum Owners] Re: Xtreme Zetec Turbo Thanks Matthew. Haven't completely ruled out water intercooling, but the issue was cost. Also whether its water or air the radiator has to do the same amount of work as an intercooler and take the same amount of heat away to get the same cooling ie same size rad as intercooler, although haven't thought it through fully yet. Space around the radiator is very very tight on the Xtreme and I woun't make a final decision until I've got the nose cone off and sussed it out. Up till now my main focus has been feasibilty. I have concluded it is feasible at a reasonable cost, so am proceeding. On your did you seal the decomp plate on one side and gasket the other or use two gaskets? I prefer the former. regards Nigel -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Quantum Owners Group group. Turbo about 0.42 A/R on turbine to minimise lag; external wastegate, will sit high towards top of engine bay. Unfortunately space is a problem due to Raceline water rail and alternator on exhaust side, may have to move alternator/ auxiliary pulley. Exhaust manifold, making myself, currently drawing up on CAD. To be fabricated in 45mm stainless Cylinder head. Will gas flow and port etc myself, spacer to be used to drop compression. Haven't done the calcs yet for thickness, will probably go Ferriday. Oil feed. Flow off the pressure switch, return to be drilled into the block above oil level, minimum 13mm diameter, ideally higher. Vent in bonnett onto turbo to help cooling, outlet vents on side near scuttle. Intercooler exact position to be determined and a problem to get one large enough, hence the bonnet vent. Don't want to use water cooler. Installation may be similar to Quantum Mark's supercharged version, but ideally I would need a larger intercooler for turbo. Blow off valve on air intake after intercooler. Heavy duty clutch, exact one not yet addressed. May try a similar route to Jim's. Depending on turbo type may not have water cooling, jury out on this. Matthew, couldn't access the web link you provided, did try. Itried direct link and cut and pasting the address. Did you modify the clutch on yours. Think thats about everything.
