[Quantum Owners] Re: Question For The Electronics Whizzkids

2012-09-05 Thread Alan
Could always use a latching relay, that will change state in response to a
momentary signal and keep its state without being constantly powered.
They're not that cheap though.

 Any help would be appreciated.

[Quantum Owners] 2+2 Rear spring axle cups

2012-09-05 Thread Don Urquhart -Potts
Hi there, my last MOT advised that the cups that seat the rear springs on
the axle were rusted and would fail the next MOT. I believe you used to be
able to buy them to replace.
Anybody know of a source or best solution to this challenge? I have not
heard of anyone having this problem before. Am I the first?
Happy quantuming

It used to be quite common.
The motor factors sell them as a repair part, probably under body panels.
Try your local Partco, Camberly motor factors or equivalent.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Heater getting warm on cold setting.

2012-09-05 Thread Jim Hearne
On the Mk2 and Mk3 Fiesta the heater matrix always has hot water flowing
through it.
There is a flap to divert the heater air either through the matrix or around it.
These are operated by Bowden cables from the heater controls.
Probably either the inner or the outer of the cable has moved at one end and
the flap isn’t being operated correctly.

If you look under the dash you should be able to see which lever does the
hot/cold control on the side of the heater assy and make sure it’s moving it’s
full travel.

Hi there, my last MOT advised that the cups that seat the rear springs on
the axle were rusted and would fail the next MOT. I believe you used to be able
to buy them to replace.
Anybody know of a source or best solution to this challenge? I have not
heard of anyone having this problem before. Am I the first?
  Happy quantuming

[Quantum Owners] MOT Time

2012-09-05 Thread Susan and Martin Scott
My Saloon is now due it's first MOT - so what should it show on the MOT
certificate?
I'm aware that kit cars can be shown as all sorts of the MOT (though should be
correct on the V5).
My previous Rickman Ranger was described as Ford Kit Car on the MOT, and could
not be changed, my present Rickman Space Ranger is Rickman/Ford on the MOT.
What do other members have on the MOT??
I'll take along the V5C, so hopefully there will be no problem, but it seems
there is only one chance to get it right, and it can't be subsequently changed
(unless I've been misinformed)

I'll remove the clocks and have a look at some point then.

So perhaps swapping the front springs for the 1.4 springs or maybe even the
diesel ones which are supposed to be a little harder? Then again presumably
the front end on a 2+2 weighs less than the fiesta in derv form?

Would xr2 gas shocks be usable with the longer springs?

How about springs/shocks for a mk1 fiesta, I gather they rode higher?

just thought id share this with you, after an hour with he hosepipe i
noticed some water had leaked in the rear quarter area via the door
latch pin, see below

http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o192/jindal/2012%20quantum/IMG_20120831_191217.jpg

i didn’t think it would as i assumed the parts would be close fitting
enough but it did dribble in the amount in the picture after a wash

my advice would be to either put a smear of sealant round the latch
pin or better still slacken it off and get some non setting sealant
behind into the joint, this way you can be sure to keep the sills dry

cheerio for now

Re: [Quantum Owners] MOT Time

2012-09-05 Thread Adrian Hopkins
I have 2 Saloons in the family.
The V5s state Ford Based Quantum on one Saloon and Quantum on another Saloon

The previous MOTs have stated Quantum.

Both have gone through their MOT recently with different Garages. They haven't
Questioned either.

However, both wanted the V5 before they would proceed which I found strange. I
didn't offer the Old MOT as they had expired.

Also make sure they do the correct / appropriate Emissions Check.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: door latch pin

2012-09-05 Thread Jim Hearne

I'm quite impressed water managed to get past that :-)
On the donor car the hole in the door pillar is quite a bit larger than the
thread on the pin so you can move it around to line the catch up.

On the Quantum it's already in the right place, or it was on mine.

I did find on my 2+2 that there was quite a different in the length of the
doors, so much so that i had to machine several mm off the head of one of
the catch pins to stop it hitting the catch housing.

Best not to compare side to side dimensions on a fibreglass body...

Either As it's first (ie 3 yrs old) MOT I wanted it to be 'correct'.

On the V5 my saloon is shown as make Quantum, there is nothing in the model,

Thanks all for the help,

[Quantum Owners] Re: door latch pin

2012-09-05 Thread jin
now you mention it mine is able to adjust so this would mean my hole
is oversize, but for the want of a dab of seal it would be peace of
mind

regarding the side to side, i made up 2 identical foam wedges (about
7mm thick) to push the rear hood - glass edge closer to the glass,
couldnt work out why the drivers side is tight and the pasenger side
is loose, till i measured it, there is a diferance of 5mm side to side
of the goor glass relative to the centerline of the car, never noticed
before but it will drive me mad if i dont sort it, at least it keeps
me busy

On Sep 5, 4:19 pm, Jim Hearne j...@quantums.info wrote:
I'm quite impressed water managed to get past that :-)
On the donor car the hole in the door pillar is quite a bit larger than the
thread on the pin so you can move it around to line the catch up.
On the Quantum it's already in the right place, or it was on mine.

I did find on my 2+2 that there was quite a different in the length of the
doors, so much so that i had to machine several mm off the head of one of
the catch pins to stop it hitting the catch housing.
Best not to compare side to side dimensions on a fibreglass body...

  hi al
hope you are all keeping well?

just thought id share this with you, after an hour with he hosepipe i
noticed some water had leaked in the rear quarter area via the door
  latch pin, see below

 http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o192/jindal/2012%20quantum/IMG_201...

i didn t think it would as i assumed the parts would be close fitting
enough but it did dribble in the amount in the picture after a wash

my advice would be to either put a smear of sealant round the latch
pin or better still slacken it off and get some non setting sealant
behind into the joint, this way you can be sure to keep the sills dry

  cheerio for now

If you look under the dash you should be able to see which lever does

RE: [Quantum Owners] MOT Time

2012-09-05 Thread Ken Needham

My MOTs showed Quantum until a couple of years ago. I didn't notice at first
but when I did I called the DVLA who said that I could get it changed next time
I took it for an MOT.
I took it up with my MOT guy who showed me that the newsystem does not allow
one to change the manufacturer other than from a prescibed list of main
names.Obviously Quantum is not on the list.
I called the DVLA again, but this time I did find someone who understood. The
told me to get the MOT place to FAX a copy of the MOT and the V5 to a number
they gave me as the change can only be done by the DVLA. Next time the make
will automatically come up as expected and will be fine so long as no one tries
to change it which can be done by selecting from the prescribed list!
I did this and the garage faxed as requested with a covering letter.
That was in March, i've heard nothing since. Maybe next timeI get an MOT it
will read correctlty again.

regards
Ken

Re: [Quantum Owners] MOT Time

2012-09-05 Thread Susan and Martin Scott
Thanks Ken - That's weird, I'd expect the car's identity to come up as Quantum
when the registration number is typed into the computer, but the workings of
DVLA baffle me (and many others). After all the months they took to register my
saloon, they still sent the V5 incorrectly showing it as a 2 seater. When I
took the V5 into Norwich DVLA they said I'd clearly given incorrect information
when I applied.I just kept quiet for once, and asked them to send off the
form, which duly arrived corrected a couple of weeks later! Martin
