[Quantum Owners] Quantum 2+2 for sale £795.

2017-05-05 Thread steve
*Quantum 2+2 for sale.*

Correctly registered as a Quantum. MOT until 19/02/2018, passing it's last
MOT with no advisories. The car is now on SORN.

The car has been family owned for the last 9 years and has been used by my
daughter as her sole car, for the last 8 years. The soft top was replaced
about 6 years ago and apart from where a window has rubbed against it, is
in good condition. The interior is basic Ford and not too bad. The engine
pulls and runs well but does use some oil. The steering, gearbox, brakes,
electrics etc. all work as they should.

The main thing that needs sorting with the car is the paint work. There are
stone chips, a few gel-coat cracks/car park scrapes and the lacquer is
peeling everywhere.

The car is at Blyth, Northumberland and I can be contracted on 07821154594.

£795 ono.

Steve

[Quantum Owners] Gear Change

2017-05-05 Thread holden.phil...@sky.com
 Hi,
After 5/6 years off the road I have now got my 2+2 MOT'd but am working my way
though a number of teething problems as they come up.
The one that is causing some concern is in respect of the gear change. It
hasn't been good since I got the car back on the road but I went out in the car
yesterday and as I drove it became more and more difficult to select a gear. At
one point I was on the front row at traffic lights and was unable to select any
of the 6 gears that should have been available! That was exciting/embarrassing.
Eventually I managed to 'forcefully' select a gear and get moving but every
gear change after that was a bit hit and miss. Several times I had to pull in
and let traffic past as I tried to find a gear.
I finally plucked up courage to go in the garage this morning and investigate -
and I was able to select all the gears without any problems albeit the engine
wasn't running.
With the engine running and getting up to temperature it seemed to get more
difficult to select a gear although I didn't road test it because of the
problems previously experienced.
As part of the recomissioning I put a new clutch in but I have now noticed a
'whirring' which stops when I press the clutch pedal in. I am thinking that the
clutch is dragging which I understand would cause selection problems.
Should I have reset the segment and pawl at the top of the clutch pedal when I
put the new clutch in?
Would resetting solve the noise and selection problem? From what I can see, or
not see, this will probably require the removal of the dashboard?
Any thoughts/opinions/advice will be gratefully received.
Regards
Phil Holden

[Quantum Owners] Xtreame Front Bearings torque settings?

2017-05-05 Thread Nigel Plant
Long topic this. The Xtreme front hubs have the same internal bearing housing
as the Sierra hubs, use the same bearings and tightening torque. From memory
around 300 NM of torque.
Thats the easy bit.
I had problems as have some others with the nuts caysing the bearings to
tighren when torqued, I also have hadnproblems on track days eith the nuts
loosening. I think it is solved now, since putting a new hub on.
What I do is; clean the centre lands in the bearing housing so that there are
no high spots from punching the bearing cones out; then bench assembly to the
specced torque, if the wheel spins freely all good. If it clamps up I put a
very thin shim between the inner bearing race and centre land and tighten. I
think the issue was poor control of the tolerance on the centre land thickness
on some hubs. I did compare mine with a sierra hub and it was slightly down,
but i didnt know what the design dimensions are. I have shims if you ever need
any.
Hope thats useful. The short answer is use Sierra torque, howdver if nousy,
surely they should be changed or maybe thats whst you are doing.
Nigel
