Re: [Quantum Owners] Quantum for sale.
To be honest I thought £1000 was low but having the highest bid on eBay at £570 with 70 people watching it I've began to lower my assumptions. Someone than offered me £850 but I've just had it taxed and MoT so that's more like a £600 offer :( Thanks for the reply On 14 Jul 2013 20:11, Susan and Martin Scott susanandmar...@corringham99.free-online.co.uk wrote: As much as possible I consider £1000 to be far too low (but I am biased!) [Quantum Owners] Quantum coupe issue
Hi all, Hope you are all good! My quantum has served me very well.. up until now. The issue is the starter motor has seized up so that should be easy enough to fix. The main issue that i am facing is the wiring. Not long ago i had some minor work carried out by a local garage who informed me that the whole wiring of the car is in a very bad state. (I am saving you the several adjectives he used to describe it!) I think that the car is basically going to require a complete basic re-wire. Having very little knowledge off car electronics, I began too look at companies that do this but quotes of near £1000 have shocked me. The question i have is that if i spend enough time attempting to re-wire my car could I do it relatively easily. I do have time to spare but balancing my job for Aston martin and my OU degree means I only have several hours (or less) to spare a weel so I would have to do it over a long period of time. I think that if i can not do this myself i will have to sell the car, which I love so i would rather not have to do that. Ideally if i could find someone that would like to have a go on the wiring as a project with me paying for parts etc would be ideal but I understand that this is a perfect situation that I am unlikely to find. ANY TAKERS??? ;) Any comments or suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated, or if anyone has any interest in a quantum to buy as a project let me know Quantum coupe, red, number 99 Many thanks Shaun McSorley -- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Quantum Owners Group group. [Quantum Owners] Under 21 insurance
I hope your all well This message only really concerns those under 21, not too sure how many of us there are! If you are under 21 and insured with footman James it is possible we have a problem. My friend owns a classic land rover defender and has only been with footman for a year. His policy is for renewal next month but he has received a letter saying they will no longer insure him. I called them up and without giving my details the guy confirmed that this is the case for all policy's under 21! Just thought I would give everyone a heads up just in case this is true, I will call and give all my details this week and see if this really will be the case. Just a shame if it is as I love my quantum but there's not a chance another company will insure me at 17 with a 130bhp fiesta rs! Hope nothing comes of it, and your all having a good new year so far. managed to get my car to a different garage today who tightened the wheel bearing that was causing the wobbling. Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: Brakes
Such a helpful response thanks so much for your time. I will have a look for tis vent some time this week and will also flush out the brake fluid as im sure it needs doing now anyway. I really want to learn more about the car as i'm going into mechanical engineering so i'm going to brave it and start putting my knowledge to the test because i was a bit worried that i would make things worse. Suppose there is only one way to learn tho! Many Thanks Shaun McSorley On Sun, Nov 6, 2011 at 8:25 PM, TonyV q...@avies.co.uk wrote: Sorry, I wouldn't know how to test for brake fluid contamination, short of taking a sample to a lab which is likely to be prohibitively expensive. Might be worth inquiring if there has been any recent work to the brakes though. My suggestion would be to completely drain the system, flush through thoroughly with the correct fluid, and then re-fit the new master cylinder. It's not a bad idea to replace your brake fluid every few years anyway. Brake fluid will absorb water from the atmosphere, which collects in the system and can cause corrosion. On the AX, we did this, and then changed both rear wheel cylinders, and put new seals in the front calipers. They would probably have failed sooner or later anyway, due to the contamination affecting the seals. But working from an unknown history? Tricky. One other thing I can think of. Some cars (not sure whether this applies to the Fiesta/Quantum) have a tiny vent hole in the brake fluid cap. This is to allow air into the master cylinder, to replace the fluid displaced from the reservoir when the pedal is pushed. (The air gets pushed back out again when the pedal is released and fluid returns to the reservoir - air shouldn't get into the system this way). If the vent hole is blocked, it's possible a slight vacuum in the reservoir might prevent fluid getting into the master cylinder properly. This could cause symptoms like those you're seeing. I can't remember how the Fiesta cap vents, but if it's been fitted with an aftermarket fashion cap, or pattern master cylinder, it may be missing the vent. TonyV. [Quantum Owners] Re: Brakes
There is an odd banging noise coming from the front right tyre, sounding like the wheel is coming off. I took it today to quick fit to have the tyres checked and he made sure there on secure. Also when i brake firmly the car skids quite easily and will leave a mark on the ground just from the front Left tyre, it then feels like there pulling too the right. I think this might be releated so gnna jack the car up this week and see whats going on! To michael- The pedal went so that i could push it further down without much braking happening, then it eventually got to the point where i could push it too the floor and the car would slow down very very slowly. Took it to the garage and they told me it was the master cylinder. It just feels like the same thing is happening now but after taking it out before, the pressure is definitely changing randomly :S On Nov 6, 10:19 pm, shaun mcsorley shaunmcsor...@gmail.com wrote: Such a helpful response thanks so much for your time. After having the brake master cylinder changed only a couple months ago and costing fortunes, i'm pretty sure its going again? does anyone know a possible reason that would cause the master cylinder to continuously break? Re: [Quantum Owners] Brakes
The brakes were so soft and i was barely getting anything from them. My local garage told me that it was because there had been a brand new one put on but not machined on properly so i had to get a new one. the brakes are starting to feel the same again with the pressure changing randomly, hopefully i may just have air in my brakes. im only 17 and brought this car to improve my knowledge on engines ect but i think the garage feel they can take the michael abit, especially how i had 3 burst coolant pipes and then the broken master cylinder a week after they gave it a full check over! thanks soo much for your replys, As i admitted my knowledge isnt the best so can you advise how to check these things? Really appreciate this On Sun, Nov 6, 2011 at 6:32 PM, TonyV q...@avies.co.uk wrote: Possible use of wrong brake fluid, recently or at some point in the past? For example, even a trace of Citroen brake fluid in the system could cause eventual MC seal failure. We found this out the hard way, after we had to change the master cylinder in Louise's old AX several times in a couple of weeks. Turns out the Citroen AX doesn't use Citroen brake fluid. We'd bought a bottle of fluid at the same time as the new Master Cylinder, and recommended by the motor factors. The can of brake fluid just said suitable for most Citroens - no actual application list, so we'd taken his word (and catalogue lookup) that it was the right one. TonyV. same think happened to me in my coupe turbo with the master cylinder. Its not a nice feeling when your zooming along and you push the brake to the floor to get minimal braking. Not an easy job but easier than on the coupe, I think... finally made it home about eleven that evening.
