Thanks Dave.
This helps. I hadn't spotted this in Haynes. I was getting confused
between air and fuel jet sizes. I combined all sources of info and
concluded mine are correct. All problems now solved.
Have live to choke, reset it and it now works fine.
Was not getting full throttle, adjuster screw/ clip where cable outer
attached to carb was crackered. Temporarily fixed with novel use of cable
tie.
Thanks all for

Hi Nigel.

The Haynes manual has the numbers you state but doesn't define which is
which - I would assume the main jet was first, but you never know.
Anyway I've attached a scan of the bit from the manual - hope it helps.

Congratulations on the purchase Nigel & welcome to 2+2 ownership.
The rattle could be from the alternator bearings. I had this and was sorted
with a fresh one. Its easy enough to tell when you spin it without the belt on.

Thanks for the responses. Had quick check of vacuum pipes but nothing obvious.
Will get Haynes and a gasket set then strip and clean carb.

Also need to put new timing belt on and water pump. Major rattling noise from
alternator water pump area, so playing safe and belt needs changing.

[Quantum Owners] Re: 2+2 Carburettor Problems

2018-05-14 Thread 'Jamest142' via Quantum Owners Group
Hi Nigel

F77 OFE drinks fuel like no-ones business, but she spends most of her time
with the choke open. It could be the butterflies are a bit sticky. I
found the Ford Escort Mk3 Haynes book of lies has the carb / choke
rebuild.
I would also check the fuel line, mine has a feed and return, and they were
corroded, so instead of being fed back into the tank, it was being finely
sprayed over the road. Finally in the same area, make sure the tank has
not got a hole in it, and the rubber hose connecting the pipe to the fuel
line is ok.

Best regards
