[Quantum Owners] Xtreme Windscreen

2016-09-23 Thread Nigel Plant
For information should anyone require an Xtreme windscreen. I recently had
to replace mine. A local glazier cut one from a laminated sheet to the
template of my old screen, marked it for vehicles, total cost £45.
 Location Leamington Spa.

I also bought a heated screen a while ago from Mark Burley, complete with
wiring and relay. I decided not to fit it so should anyone want a heated
screen please contact me, I will want some payment for this.

Nigel

[Quantum Owners] Xtreme WIndscreen gap

2010-06-20 Thread Ian Mac
I have been looking at the windscreen that was fitted to my "virtually
ready for IVA" Xtreme. After finding that it was not bonded into the
frame at all, I have found that with the lower rubber removed there is
a gap of approx. 5mm between the scuttle and thr bottom of the
windscreen in the middle.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can reduce this gap as even with a
new rubber section installed, I am sure that there will still be a gap
once the windscreen is bonded into place within the frame?

Regards,

Ian Mac

[Quantum Owners] Xtreme windscreen woes

2010-08-11 Thread Doug
Dammit

Just cracked another Xtreme windscreen. That makes 4 (2 during build,
and 2 during 3500 miles driving). When the last one cracked I think
it was my fault - When I replaced it I noticed I'd fitted the lower
windscreen frame on the scuttle slightly angled forward relative to
the plane of the main frame, and it was bowing the glass out. The
crack started from the convex edge below the tax disc which would have
been the point of the highest stress, so when I fitted the last screen
for the MOT in May I tilted the screen a bit more upright by putting
washers under the screen brackets which meant a nice flat screen.
However, yesterday it cracked in the same place again, so I'm
wondering if anyone else is suffering cracking screens. Now I will
watch as the crack grows, and hope it doesn't bend inwards to under
the wiper sweep, which will mean an MoT fail or new screen next year.

IMHO the screen shape and edge quality is not as good as it should be,
but I'd be interested in hearing anyone elses experiences with Xtreme
screens. If the edges were properly ground then there wouldn't be so
many places for cracks to start.

Is it just me breaking screens though?

Regards to all

Doug

Re: [Quantum Owners] Xtreme windscreen woes

2010-08-11 Thread Ian Harrison
Sounds like a nightmare. Although mine is not completely flat when mounted
in the frame, it has lasted me three years. It had the screen replaced the
year before I bought it, but I do not know whether it popped or was smashed
by a stone.

Could there be an issue with the position of the side frame mounts?
