Re: [Quantum Owners] CVH Cambelt
Pretty sure they were 36k or 3 years but the quality of the belts has improved greatly since the 80s and 90s. However working on the basis that if the belt snaps you will have valve damage it's best to do them regularly. RE: [Quantum Owners] CVH Cambelt Change
I was told to change the belt every 30,000 miles or 3 years depending which one you reach first. As for changing the belt, the Ford garage I use just lever the engine over a bit to get the bottom cover off. That's what I told them to do as the Stourbridge lot did the same. I've seen 36,000 miles mentioned on the net, but it doesn't do that sort of mileage, so how many years? My factory built saloon MK2 (1900cc Vulcan CVH) is now 15 years old, and the belt was last changed when Quantum was at Stourbridge, I guess around 2001 or 2002 ' ish? I'll get my locally friendly garage to do the work, so I wonder if anyone has an idiot's guide on how to change the belt? Is it question of dropping the engine from underneath? Re: [Quantum Owners] CVH Cambelt Change
I managed to replace it on my previous saloon without removing the engine by getting the cover off from top and below by raising then lowering the engine, and similar with the belt. - Bit of a wriggle but was possible. - Original Message - From: "chris" To: "Quantum Owners Group" Cc: Sent: Monday, April 11, 2011 7:54 AM Subject: [Quantum Owners] CVH Cambelt Change What's the recommended cambelt change interval for a CVH? Re: [Quantum Owners] CVH Cambelt Change
Hi Chris, It needs to be changed every 5-7 year if you do not reach the miles . . . I did not know that either - found out the hard way - - vales bent etc.. Drop from underneath I put the car on bricks ca. 90cm high - than you can lower the engine, gearbox + beam, driveshafts, shocks all in one. Remove the brake claws, hang them on a wire so you don't damage the brakeline. Now you can work on the engine. and see if anything els needs replaceing, jus as a precaution.
