Re: [Quantum Owners] Cipher

2016-01-15 Thread Susan and Martin Scott
There was an unstarted kit for sale I found on the net a couple of years ago,
for sale by a Reliant specialist, so I can only guess the build may have even
been beyond his limits? So it didn't bode well for a potential purchaser. I
alerted Adam Wilkins (now Editor AND owner of Complete Kit Car), and he
featured it in the magazine. I wonder how it has progressed.

I thought that the MX5 was in fact a British design and came originally from
International Automotive Design (IAD), just down the road from us at Worthing.
Not a well published fact from a marketing point of view!

IAD were at one time a very large concern for a design studio with over 2000
staff and included such grandiose equipment as a couple of inspection platforms
to enable full size “model in clay” measurement for direct input into CAD.
They were not averse to poaching staff from Ricardo. They were bought at
various times by Mayflower and Daewoo as its Worthing Technical Centre, who
sold it to TWR, who went into liquidation in 2002.

From memory, the original MX5 concept was similar to that of the Lotus Elan
with a load bearing backbone from which everything else was hung/suspended.
