I'm not sure how to turn it off, but you can toggle it on demand by
pressing F2.

[qubes-users] Turn off quiet boot?

2017-10-11 Thread Ron Hunter-Duvar
Does anyone know how to turn off QubesOs' quiet boot (splash screen
instead of kernel messages)?

I like to see the messages during boot (and shutdown). More than once
I've caught a lurking problem (although it scrolls by fast, those red "[
FAILED ]" messages really stand out).

I've removed the "quiet" keyword from the "kernel=" lines in
/boot/efi/EFI/qubes/xen.cfg, but that only gives me the first page or
so, and still brings up the splash screen. Pressing Esc gets me back to
the messages, but I'd like to have it stay there.

This is with EFI booting. No grub (don't even have a grub.cfg file in
/boot).

Thanks,

Ron

[qubes-users] Making Your Own Sys-VMs

2017-10-11 Thread Sam Hentschel
Hey all!

I've been looking at changing all my VM templates to fedora minimal.

I've gotten all my AppVMs moved over to templates based on fedora
minimal.

However, I'm still having some trouble making fedora minimal templates
that will work for my NetVM, FirewallVM, and USBVM.

For the NetVM specifically, I installed the driver and software that was
stated on the Fedora Minimal page but it still doesn't register my
wireless card.

Anybody have what I need to get these templates ready for those system
VMs?

Have you installed the Qubes Tools?

When you send files to your Windows Qube they in a subfolder of "My

It probably means there is a logical inconsistency

Using 'fsck' on it might fix it. Before doing that, you may have

I can explain the steps. You may wish to backup your appVM before
continuing.

1. Start a dispVM (I'll call it disp1). Your appVM should not be running.

2. In dom0 run 'qvm-block -A /var/lib/qubes/appvms/yourappvm/private.img'
Substitute 'yourappvm' in above command with the name of your appVM.

Correction: This command should be 'qvm-block -A disp1
dom0:/var/lib/qubes/appvms/yourappvm/private.img'

After fsck finishes you can shutdown disp1 and try to use your appVM. Or
you can also use disp1 to explore the disk volume and copy data out of
it (e.g. 'sudo mount /dev/xvdi /somedir; qvm-copy destvm
/somedir/somefile').

I've tried this, and the menus do change, but the apps don't. I'm unable to
change the appearance on AppVMs, and the changes in Dom0 do not affect them.
What can I do?

I have one, Yoga S1, and it has native support for everything. But it has Intel
ME. If you really want to go free, maybe try the X200T. It has a Core2Duo,
meaning you can install freeboot and disable ME. I think 16GB is possible, but
be aware that you won't be able to run a lot.

[qubes-users] Increasing the number of Dom0 and VM kernels one can have at same time

2017-10-11 Thread daltong defourne
Hi!
Basically, I am affected both by this bug
https://github.com/QubesOS/qubes-issues/issues/3165 and this issue
https://github.com/QubesOS/qubes-issues/issues/3158

So I need myself a few extra kernels installed "just in case", so as to make
sure that nothing untowards happens in case of any future dom0 updates.

I can spare the extra space for the time being.

How can I go about it, is there a setting that controls how many dom0 kernels
and VM kernels the system "keeps around" during update process?
