( https://www.facebook.com/InsurgoTech/insights/?section=navPosts) We actually reprogram A-Grade refurbished x230 with Heads firmware ( http://osresearch.net/), while neutralizing Intel ME ( https://github.com/osresearch/heads-wiki/blob/master/Clean-the-ME-firmware.md) while being there. I collaborate with Heads and QubesOS developers for a while now.. QubesOS can even be preinstalled with user's desired customizations ( https://github.com/SkypLabs/my-qubes-os-formula/issues) or shipped with latest QubesOS ISO on external MicroSD support. Heads validates ISO integrity with distribution's signing keys prior to boot them (Tails, Fedora, QubesOS). Heads, deployed with a Nitrokey Pro v2/LibremKey or by using internal TPM, validates rom' integrity before booting from it. With the help of a NitroKey/LibremKey (https://puri.sm/posts/introducing-the-librem-key/), the boot configurations are signed with user's keys and verified and the firmware integrity is attested at each reboot through HOTP (led flashing or TPMTOTP on user's cell phone through Google Authenticator or compatible app. The user receives the Nitrokey/LibremKey and his computer in distinct shipping packages and reunites at first laptop boot to attest that the firmware of the computer has not been tampered with in transit. ( https://puri.sm/posts/introducing-the-librem-key/). The user, upon bootup integrity attestation, proceeds to the ownership of his new laptop (TPM) and his LibremKey. The user is then invited to reencrypt his SSD encrypted content with it's own chosen passphrase ( https://github.com/osresearch/heads/issues/463) and to choose a secondary disk unlock passphrase, which will unlock encrypted disk content only if the firmware has boot attested integrity. Bernhard...keep in mind I am no expert but I have managed to get 3.2 and 4.0 working(Not on a DELL) but here are some thoughts: 1) Look thru your BIOS settings I found I had to tweek them to get my system installed. 2) Did you run 3.2 on this machine and are now upgrading to 4.0. If not I would again look at your BIOS. 3) When you do the reinstall are you able to wipe the old install? During the install process you can wipe out the old install. The simplest way to remove (most of) KDE is, I think: dnf remove kdelibs,plasma-workspace Removing those packages pulls out those that depend on them while leaving Xfce (and X) untouched. Though why you would want to remove Plasma? So easy to configure and customize, and really enhances Qubes experience. unman -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. Re: [qubes-users] Re: Qubes 3.2: No Internet Connection, neither with Wi-Fi, neither with Ethernet. HELP PLEASE!
Thank you that worked perfect! Very much appreciated! I think I have enough to help with some documentation for the true beginner. Both laptop and pc, Qubes is running and I’m learning more of the operating system. Great OS, this platform is awesome. I do have a question, adding vpn? Or just running a qube with Tor. Recommendations of adding a vpn Also it seems pointless to adding a Windows Os to. VM I’m Qubes. Just running a template qube seems ideal? Thanks to everyone who has jumped in with help! I hope I will be able to assist others to pay it forward. [qubes-users] install problem
Hello, I try to install qubes-4.0 on a new dell with i7. I got the base system installed. After few minutes I observed freezes (qube-manager, also app-vms.) I decided that a restart may be a good idea. Since then, the system refuses my luks-password (I tried 12 times, using 4 intermediate reboots). Then I gave up. I restarted the installation process from scratch: the installer CAN use my luks password and see the "old" installation. So the passphrase is right indeed. What can I do? I feel damn stupid right now (the keyboard is US-standard). Thank you, Bernhard -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. This is fairly common when upgrading the kernel in Debian. In Qubes OS there are multiple mounts inside each Qube, and thus apt-get asks you where / or /boot is mounted, so that it knows where to upgrade grub. To my understanding (without having looked into it any further), I have kept guessing that the / dir is mounted in what is called /dev/xvda inside the Qube. I generally always mark that, and then it happily continues without any angry warnings. Would welcome any clarification too though :) Those are my 2 cents at least! [qubes-users] Removing KDE
Hello everybody! I wanted to try out KDE with Qubes 4, but found that it was simply too much compared to my needs. Unfortunately, removing KDE again isn't as simple as installing it. My biggest issues is that it hijacked some core components across the system, even though I am not using KDE (such as the notification frontend among other things). I found an old thread where Marmarek suggested using `dnf mark install` on the packages that dnf wrongly tries to remove, but dnf remains way too aggressive in what it wants to remove. Basically dnf wants to remove everything X related, not only the KDE stuff installed. If anybody knows any way of reverting and purging KDE completely, I would be eternally grateful! Otherwise I might just have to backup all my stuff and go for a reinstall :( Thanks in advance! PS: Lesson has been learned.. don't mindlessly install unncessary things. Limited to 16GB RAM, but even with HDD and 12 GB perfectly serviceable for Qubes4.0. And *cheap*. Pretty easy to maintain, and no problem with flashing BIOS from linux. I'd still recommend - boxy is the new black. unman -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. It need not be set to get nested virtualization in Qubes4.0 I regularly run Qubes nested, both Live images and installed HVMs, and it requires no special parameter setting. Both Live and installed work out of the box - there's certainly nothing disabled. unman -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group.
