Re: [qubes-users] R4.0.1: RTL8152 USB Ethernet adapter (Dell XPS13 TB16 dock) fails
peter.palen...@gmail.com: I have a Dell TB16 dock with Ethernet over USB, based on a Realtek 8152 chip. The device appears fine in sys-usb VM using r8152 driver and ehci/xhci. So it works fine with direct PCI access to the device. Connecting the usb device (via 'dom0$ qvm-usb attach...') to sys-net VM triggers loading of vhci. After some dmesg says "cannot enable. Maybe the usb cable is bad?" and the device does not work in sys-net VM. Blacklisting/disabling vhci-hcd in sys-net VM does not help (connecting fails immediately). Does qubes usb attaching require vhci? I upgraded dom0/vm kernels, BIOS -> no help. The dock worked fine on this computer using bare-metal Ubuntu with equal kernel version. Re: [qubes-users] Re: off topic - invite codes to 'riseup'
I can't believe how many people these days think that: * Elite staff (for maximum security) very expensive * Lawyers (privacy focused right? well you gotta have those for that) * Servers and electricity to run them * Bandwidth Are all free, and that thus the email should be free and that they should be willing to go to federal prison for you all for free and that someone they can make money without selling your data. Want good email? BUY IT! and ask questions of the provider before you do such as do they use outside services, do they use any third party junk like google analyitics, googleapis etc. Anything "privacy focused" is probably not very good since they are simply riding on that marketing similar to how most organic snacks taste like crap because they're just riding on organic whereas if you are in the conventional food market you have to actually be good for people to buy your stuff, no paid business grade email service is going to sell or give away your data since no one would buy from them after that thus they are all "privacy focused". I hate the big tech companies that got people used to wanting "free" stuff, I know folks who make over 100K/yr who would rather have their data sold than pay $5/mo for professional paid email and it makes absolutely no sense to me. [qubes-users] "Run command doesn't work" in VM after updating vmtemplate
I am on R3.2 I know its not supported. I am going to update to R4. But before I update. I have been running on 3.2 for for a week and I used the arch vm to download and save some work. I updated archLinux vmtemplate to install new pkgs. After update I shutdown template before running my archvm. When I shut down the vmtemplate I got the msgbox with "it has been more than 20s" "cancel or kill it" I killed archLinux vmtemplate to shut it down. Now my arch VM starts but will not run any command whatsoever. Qvm-run arch command doesn't work either. Now If I start archlinux template I can not run any command in template as well. And if I run vmtemplate with arch vm. There's an indicator that looks like a loading arrows next arch VM under machine state column. Perhaps this is a side effect of firefox's recent (last day or two) failure to update some key, leading everyone's firefox's to reject all addons? google this and you will find tons of people complaining. You can circumvent this by disabling signing altogether (!?!). Obviously it's ridiculous for me to suggest this on the qubes list; you should not install unsigned updates. But I was fine doing this for my already-installed addons, whose signatures had been checked before. Once they come up with a fix, I will turn signing back on and then update. The update is through on debian (called firefox 60.6.2-esr), android (different version number) and I guess also on fedora (but I have no fedora anymore, so I cannot tell you.
